In the words of Tones Elder (the endurance king)

“Shoot your shot and make your move now” 😆

How often do you do the “boring” work? And how well do you actually do it?

I’ll be the first to admit, there was a time when I didn’t place nearly enough value on this type of training.

I loved lifting heavy, chasing PBs and doing all the fun stuff annnd don’t get me wrong, I still do!

But these days, these types of sessions are honestly some of my favourites. To watch my stability and control get better is a way better PB to me than the weight I’m shifting.

Think about it, when we run we’re repeatedly moving from one leg to the other. So how often are you actually working on your single-leg and pelvic strength, stability and control?

It’s easy to get caught up in lifting heavier, running faster and overlooking the smaller things that contribute to those bigger goals.

But what if instead of avoiding the exercises you find boring, you challenged yourself to actually get good at them?
Change your mindset, see it as another opportunity to improve rather than “a boring” session! Game changer.

There is just so much value in improving how you move! ☺️🙌🏼

Ghosts don’t scare me. But trusting a fart mid run does… 😆

Feel like you lose control in your squats?

Maybe this one’s for you, or maybe you already know this and it’s just a little reminder!

Sometimes slowing things down gives us the opportunity to recognise where we’re losing control and work on improving it.

A little more intention behind how we move can go a long way.

Try adding a 2-3s eccentric to your next set and see what you notice

4 trailer park girls take on @trailer_fit 🥇🏆

Such a fun night racing with the girls. There’s something extra special about doing it with a crew of women who bring the hype and have your back the whole way

“If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always got.”

A quote I’ve come back to many times, and one I think applies beautifully to training.

What if you shifted your mindset from seeing progression as adding more weight, to seeing progression as refining how you move that weight?

More control, better stability, greater range of motion, improved coordination. All things that can make a movement more effective without adding load.

I get it, I’ve been there. Chasing heavier weights and letting my ego get in the way.

But imagine being able to move that heavier weight with the same control, stability and confidence as you do a lighter one.

Now THAT’S a flex

One thing I’ve come to appreciate more and more as a coach is the importance of asking questions before offering solutions.

It’s easy to assume that someone who isn’t progressing needs to train harder, lift heavier, run faster or do more.

But what if that’s not what they need at all?
What if they’re already giving everything they have, but their training isn’t allowing them the opportunity to adapt?

There are so many factors that contribute to progress, and not all of them happen inside the gym.

The goal isn’t to make training harder for the sake of it. It’s to make it purposeful. by @ne_perform

The Ironman World Championships are a pretty incredible reminder of what a well-developed aerobic engine can achieve.

Athletes like Taylor Knibb, Lucy Charles-Barclay and Kristian Blummenfelt don’t build their endurance by going all-out every session.

A huge part of endurance training is developing aerobic capacity through consistent, controlled work, alongside appropriately programmed higher-intensity sessions.

Easy running helps us build that foundation while managing fatigue so we can actually perform when the intensity matters.

Just because you CAN run faster doesn’t mean you SHOULD.

Some days running feels light and effortless, and other days the exact same pace can feel so much harder.

There are so many things that can change how we feel from one day to the next. I’ve spent a lot of time putting pressure on myself over numbers and paces, but I think I’m finally getting it… and I’m remarkably fine with it.

It’s natural as humans to compare ourselves to other people. I’m not going to tell you not to compare. But I do challenge you, when you catch yourself doing it, to take a second and remind yourself where you are now compared to where you once were.

Your journey is yours. No one else’s.

Slow down when you need to. Meet your body where it’s at that day. Give yourself a little grace, be kind to yourself and never lose the joy in moving your body 🩵 by @ne_perform

Because they’re cool....

But also…

Power cleans train explosive extension through the ankles, knees and hips, aka triple extension, while teaching us to produce force FAST ⚡

It’s not just about how much force you can produce, but how quickly you can produce it... rate of force development 🤓

This carries over to movements that require speed and explosiveness like sprinting, jumping, throwing and changing direction.

If you can’t perform power cleans, there are plenty of other exercises that can train similar qualities while incorporating triple extension:

⚡ Med ball Slams
⚡ Trap bar jumps
⚡ DB jump squats
⚡ Vertical/box jumps

Power cleans are just one way to train it by @ne_perform

Tones’s time precision is uncanny 😝

Why spend time warming up or hanging around in the wind, when you can jump out the car start your race immediately and warm up in the first 5kms.

This man is Brainy 🤓

See you at the end of your 56kms 🫡
