POSTS STORIES REELS

Nearly every photograph you see throughout Neighborhood Guide is shot on film.

In a world where almost everything is instant, there’s something we still love about the slower process of film. There’s no screen to check after every frame, only 36 exposures on a roll, and no knowing exactly what you captured until the scans come back. It keeps us present, makes us a little more intentional with each photograph, and leaves room for the imperfections that often make an image feel even more special.

We also love that every roll supports a larger community of film shops, local labs, and the people who continue to keep the craft alive.

A few reasons why we still choose film, and probably always will 🤎

We always develop & scan with @35mpro out of Los Angeles.
Not even sponsored, just a huge fan.

Our Brooklyn City Guide is here —

Brooklyn is often defined by its brownstones, waterfront views, and proximity to Manhattan, but what makes the borough so special is what unfolds once you begin exploring its storybook-like neighborhoods 💭

Each neighborhood has a rhythm and character of its own, shaped by generations of families, artists, makers, and independent businesses. Wander a little farther and you’ll find old-school bakeries beside cozy wine bars, family-run restaurants and delis, neighborhood gardens, independent shops, and everyday places that make the borough so rewarding to explore.

Now in our shop !

Launching next — BROOKLYN, NYC

While Manhattan is often the city’s first impression, Brooklyn reveals a quieter side of New York. We’re highlighting the long-standing neighborhood favorites, independent cafés, waterfront parks, local bookshops, and everyday places that make the borough feel distinctly its own.

Launching late August. 💭

Comment “stay” and we’ll send the Japan Hotel Guide straight to your inbox 📨

We’ve gathered some of our favorite stays across Japan into one Journal entry and just added several new properties throughout Hakone and Hokkaido.

One of the things we love most about travel is finding a place that becomes part of the trip itself 💭 The tiny ryokan you still think about years later. The cozy hotel lobby where you spent an entire rainy afternoon. The guesthouse owner who gave you a local recommendation that changed your entire itinerary.

These are the kinds of places we’ve gathered in our updated Japan Hotel Guide 🤎

If you have a personal favorite hotel in Japan, we’d genuinely love to hear about it below!

Our San Francisco City Guide brings together 270+ locally loved spots across the city for travelers looking to experience a more thoughtful and grounded side of SF 💭

Beyond the cable cars and postcard views is a city shaped by neighborhood cafes, old bookstores, historic bars, family-run restaurants, steep hills, hidden stairways, and the people who continue to give each corner of the city its distinct character.

Reminiscing on some of our favorite moments from the San Francisco City Guide 💭

- Haas-Lilienthal House Tour, a preserved Victorian-era home built in 1886

- bento lunch by @ajikiji at the nearby St Mary’s Square on a rainy afternoon

- Ina Coolbrith Park, a small hillside park with incredible views overlooking downtown and the Bay Bridge in the distance

- @patcosf, a stationery shop downtown that feels refreshingly unchanged and still family-owned since 1873

- ending the day with dry-fried chicken wings at San Tung

Our San Francisco City Guide is here —

It’s no wonder so many musicians, writers, and wanderers have passed through over the decades and left inspired by it 💭

Within just seven square miles, the city somehow holds an extraordinary amount of character. Ocean views appear at the end of residential streets, historic cable cars climb through hillside neighborhoods, and communities shaped by generations of immigrants, artists, activists, and longtime locals who continue to give the city its distinct identity.

Our San Francisco Guide was created to help you experience a more thoughtful and grounded side of the city. One centered around slower wandering and the local spaces that continue to shape San Francisco far beyond its postcard image.

Now in our shop!

Sometimes the best way to plan a trip is to step away from your screen for a bit.

Neighborhood Guide started as a way to collect the places we kept thinking about long after the trip was over 💭 You know…those tucked-away cafes, family-run restaurants, and quiet corners of a city that are easy to miss, but somehow stay with you.

Over time, it’s grown into a collection of city guides meant to be taken with you - printed, folded, written on, and carried throughout the day (with an optional private webpage version always included)!

No log ins, no notifications. Just a slower way to move through a new place 🤎 Thank you for being here !

Excited to share our latest ‘CONVERSATIONS WITH’ interview — a series where we spend time with small businesses and learn more about their origin story, what they’re excited about, and of course their neighborhood favorite spots.

This time we sat down with the couple behind @tahonamercado.sf in San Francisco, California. What started during the pandemic has grown into a space that blends a casual dining experience with a small market, shaped by a real respect for Mexican food, process, and the people behind it.

You’ll also find a small selection of Mexican pantry goods and a thoughtfully curated mezcal wall, adding another layer to the space 🇲🇽

These are the kinds of places we’re always drawn to! Gracias @tahonamercado.sf for the conversation and memorable food 🐟🌮
