First time singing in a 43-note-per-octave-scale, with the sensational @partchensemble this June!!! My part was written mostly in equal temperament (how the “normal” piano is tuned) thanks be to @annelebaron , who makes everything sparkle together like magic. But singing surrounded by these microtonal organs, bells, gigantic marimbas was a gorgeous reorienting to sound.

We love a person who literally builds new instruments to get what they want. Harry Partch is the realest— check out his world if you haven’t yet. You know who are also the realest the i-pinch-myself cast and ensemble I had the pleasure of working with for this. Click any of their handles and you’ll find prime inspo rabbit holes of pieces, collaborations, and perspectives:

Here is an excerpt from @annelebaron ‘s new opera “LSD—Huxley’s Last Trip,” where JFK hallucinates Jackie O, Marilyn Monroe, and his lovers when he’s tripping with Mary Meyer in his White House bedroom.

I frickin love that studying classical voice has somehow led me to these people and this piece. Adventures abound and just keep on abounding out here. I love LA.

Here we are and gutenzi day!

Here is a poem of words and phrases from my journal:

Mantra Wanted an innertube
What will happen if familiars am I?
Pain? Context? Working with animals,
whose wondrous boons are equal to their great is.
Ava with brown hair washing dishes in F's house,
announcing the special ones—mind, body, speech—and otherwise making mountains out of molehills.
Are vegetables!
GOOD FOR YOU.
What's growing in our yard?
Olive oil or jojoba.

ANNOUNCEMENT! @annelebaron and I have one!!!!!!!!!!! We're collaborating on the following new work with support from New Music USA. Very psyched to learn from and mind meld with Anne in this co-composing, improvisation-leading, compositional-collage foray. Here's to tricking opera into new places by thinking differently about its mechanics 🍻, about cause and effect and realtime sound+body+text reactivity. I've been thinking for a long time about the role of opera singer as bring-to-life interpreter of static material, and how this role could be reinterpreted into a realtime co-composer of their sound+body+experience. And we love earth is the body and the body is the earth consequences. Let's find out if and what and where how is possible.

“All Waste Accepted” is a one-act solo vocal hyperopera by Anne LeBaron and Nelle June Anderson. In Earth’s final recycling center after environmental collapse, a lone attendant feverishly repurposes sound, movement, and notation to maximize post-performer recycled content.

"All Waste Accepted" was supported by New Music USA's Creator Fund, with support in part from The ASCAP Foundation Bart Howard Fund, BMI Foundation, and the Howard Gilman Foundation. Support for New York-based artists is provided in part by public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of Governor and the New York State Legislature, and/or the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council. Support for the Creator Fund is also provided by contributions from the New Music USA endowment. @newmusicusa #wearenewmusic by @nellejuneanderson
