“This October, four young women were thrilled to graduate from their four-year nursing program in Léogâne. Vastie Meide, Micharlene Rome, Jhona Guy, and Jennica Delma are New Missions graduates representing four different villages where we work in Haiti. Together, they made up 10% of the graduating class, with two ranking in the top three. Micharlene was valedictorian, and Jennica placed third. In her graduation speech, Micharlene thanked those who helped her reach this milestone and encouraged the students following behind her. Each graduate expressed gratitude to New Missions, their mother and their sponsor for the investment that helped make this accomplishment possible. Even during their training, they blessed their communities by helping with wound care, monitoring blood pressure, and providing practical health education. Each of them became interested in nursing as a teenager. After seeing positive nursing examples, they desired to help the sick. They believe nursing will give them another opportunity to practice and express their faith in Jesus. Vastie says, “It is a way of using what God has given me in His service.” Micharlene believes nursing will allow her to love people as we are commanded and lead others to the ultimate healer, Jesus.” ~Rachel DeTellis by @newmissions

“‘Great joy’ were words often used by participants to describe the happiness they experienced during their three-day teachers’ seminar in Haiti. Our 147 elementary school teachers gathered at our high school campus for a time of training and encouragement. Because our teachers have a tremendous impact on the students, it was an honor to facilitate this event. In preparation, several school directors met with the Education Inspector to discuss topics including ethics in teaching, communication, lesson preparation, conflict management, administration, and the current educational requirements of Haiti’s Department of Education. The teachers and 21 school directors met for larger sessions, while much of the teaching took place in smaller groups organized by grade level. Many teachers found the session on ethics helpful, while others appreciated training on communication and lesson preparation. Alexis Venia, Bire’s kindergarten teacher said, “The training helped me understand how to help students who are struggling.” Jean Jude, Lassale’s third-grade teacher, was thankful to learn how to improve outcomes with better ways to communicate. Several directors described the seminar as a time to “recycle” and to renew and strengthen teachers’ skills. They will begin the school year refreshed and better equipped to bless their students. “ ~Rachel DeTellis by @newmissions

“Who is ready to be sent by God? Travel with me to Bire, Haiti, by driving down the two-lane “not so much” of a road that goes from Port-au-Prince to Léogâne, Haiti. After you cross over the bridge at the Momance River, you will then turn right down a dirt road that weaves through sugar cane fields. After two miles of navigating the bumpy terrain, you will arrive at an intersection where you can turn right to access the village of Bire. It was at this intersection where we began hosting outdoor church services to evangelize the village of Bire. There was no church, no school, and no well. We eventually planted a church in 1987, opened a school, drilled a well, and started a medical clinic in Bire, Haiti. This year our Bire church sent 80 Haitians on mission trips across Haiti. Our Haitian missionaries are sent and scattered to spread the Good News of Jesus. To God be the glory, for the power of the Gospel to change lives, build disciples, and send missionaries!” ~Tim DeTellis by @newmissions
“In our schools, we believe strongly in investing in the lives of our teachers and employees. When our teachers have greater control over their personal lives, they are better equipped to serve, support, and love their students well. To kick off the school year, we organized a Bible study for all of our employees. After seeing how beneficial the study was for a group of young adults who completed it last year, we felt it could also encourage and equip our entire staff. The eight-week study, designed by Crown Financial Ministries, focused on financial freedom and Biblical principles for managing money. Each week, employees met with coworkers to learn how to create and live within a budget and develop a plan for paying off debt. One group leader shared, “Each session, we learned more about how the Lord invites us to worship Him through our finances.” We have received many positive responses and look forward to seeing the long-term impact on our employees and their families.” ~Heather Williams Katz by @newmissions
We have started the roof work at our high school. I expect this project to take one year. We have two large u-shaped classroom buildings. There will be other upgrades done to the buildings and grounds at the high school site. As Ecclesiastes 9:10 reminds us, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.” Since the majority of Haitian children will never have the chance to attend high school, students are proud to be able to attend our school. There are currently 519 enrolled in our high school. Thank you for your prayers and investment in the lives of these Haitian children. ~Charlie DeTellis by @newmissions
“Shoebox season has officially begun! Our office has already been busy the past few months ‌ getting our pre-packed shoeboxes prepared. It has only been possible with the amazing help of volunteers. They are a true testament that together, we can do more. While not everyone can join us in our Orlando office to volunteer, you can still serve right where you are. We want to encourage you to make shoebox packing more than an individual project this year. You can host a packing party with your neighbors, Bible study group, homeschool co-op, classroom, youth group, etc. Buying supplies in bulk and/or organizing a shopping trip with family and friends is a great starting point. What an impactful way to teach children and teens about generosity and serving ‌God’s Kingdom. If packing physical boxes is a challenge, you can encourage your group to see how many boxes you can preorder together. Get creative and have fun! Challenge yourself to see how you can include fellowship and community with this year’s shoebox season. We can do more by working together. However you choose to serve the children of New Missions during the Shoebox Drive, may you keep Jesus and His love at the center. “We love because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:19” ~Ainsley Moree by @newmissions
It’s officially shoebox drive season! You can order a shoebox gift packed on your behalf at ShoeboxDrive.com. We are collecting shoebox gifts from October 1 - December 31. “We love because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:19 by @newmissions
Here we are! It’s October 1 and we are now officially in the Shoebox Drive season at New Missions. These are exciting days as we see shoebox gifts arriving at our office. Volunteer teams are helping to process and pack them in cases to be loaded on cargo containers for shipping overseas. As a reminder, our collection runs through December 31, so there is plenty of time to be involved and invite others! Here is a fun fact: over the past 19 years, we have collected 243,553 shoebox gifts. By the way, if your church wants a total of how many shoeboxes you collected, please count them prior to shipping them to our office. Thank you for helping to serve families. ~Ainsley Moree Campaign Manager www.ShoeboxDrive.com by @newmissions
