BRING THE PAIN

Pain is the greatest teacher and the ultimate motivator.

Nothing gets me moving more than the pain of staying the same.

The pain of stagnation.

The pain of inconsistency.

There is a pain in wanting and striving but not yet achieving.

So get that extra rep in.

Wake up earlier.

Give a little more.

And watch yourself change.

We are built to evolve.

YOUR STORY IS NOT OVER.

I thought tearing my pec 10 months ago was going to break me, and it did. But not in the way I thought it would.

I needed to break down so I could come back 10x stronger.

Every bit of pain I felt, I needed.
All those times I wanted to quit, I needed that too.

We don’t get to just keep the parts of the story we want and discard the rest. We need all of it. Especially the dark times.

In Boston, I completed a solo Hyrox in 1:13:46 which placed me in top 9% of the men and 46th in my age group.

This was my first time ever doing something like this.

I never thought I would get here. I never thought I would be the man I am today.

But all of those painful moments shaped me. There were some brutal lessons I needed to learn.

We must continue to adapt and evolve.

Your story is not over, it is only the beginning. by @nickbarrios44

LET IT CHANGE YOU.

New habits and routines are supposed to be hard. They should be challenging and you should not expect to get things “right” or “perfect” the first time you do something.

All of those unrealistic expectations of myself only led to disappointment.

The secret is to show up consistently. To remember why I wanted to build something new in the first place.

Something inside of me was yearning to evolve. To grow. To be something different - bigger, better, faster, stronger, to give more, to fight more, to love harder.

The list goes on.

But none of that happens if we fail to make the first step because of fear, or the second step because of doubt, or the third step due to self judgement and insecurity.

Let the newness of these actions and behaviors change you. There is a sacrifice to be made, but understand that what you’re being asked to let go of is a version of you which no longer serves your deepest purpose and mission.

Who you are becoming is much more appealing. by @nickbarrios44

CHOOSE YOUR “SUCK.”

Yesterday I was competing in a HYROX simulation at @frqncyperformance.

During one of the runs, another participant looked over at me and said:

“This sucks.”

My response: “You know what else sucks? Being fat and lazy, sitting on the couch doing nothing. Choose your suck.”

We laughed about it in the moment but I kept thinking about that conversation afterwards.

The truth is, nothing is really “easy.”

Everything has a price.

You want a healthy body?

The price is training when you don’t feel like it. Eating well. Recovering. Taking care of yourself. Doing it consistently for years.

You want a healthy relationship?

The price is your time and attention. Difficult conversations. Vulnerability. Compromise. Choosing to place another’s needs above your own.

You want a thriving career?

The price is long hours. Education. Creativity. Taking risks. Networking. Doing work nobody sees before you ever get recognized for it.

You want to build a life you’re proud of?

There’s a price for that too.

But this is something we forget:

There’s a price for NOT doing those things.

Being unhealthy has a price.
Being lonely has a price.
Staying comfortable has a price.
Wasting your potential has a price.

You don’t get to choose whether you pay.

You get to choose what you’re willing to pay for.

Choose the struggle that moves the needle forward and creates something meaningful in your life.

Do the hard thing.

CHOOSE YOUR “SUCK”. by @nickbarrios44

TRUST THE PROCESS.

I spent too much time focusing on the scoreboard.

The weight.
The time.
The PR.
The promotion.
The money.
Whatever version of ourselves we think we’re supposed to become.

But most of that isn’t actually in our control.

What is in our control is what we do today.

Show up.
Do the work.
Recover.
Learn.
Adjust.
Come back tomorrow.

And do it again.

Something I’ve been learning lately is that the more attached I am to an outcome, the easier it is to miss the entire point of the process.

Because the process is where everything actually happens.

The results are delayed but the work we need to do is right in front of us.

We don’t need to know exactly where we’re going to be six months from now. We just need to know what the next right thing is and be willing to do it…even when we don’t have any proof yet that it’s working.

Faith in the process matters.

There are going to be days where you feel like you’re making progress, and days where you feel like you’re going backwards.

Keep going anyway.

Trust that the small things you do consistently will pay off in time.

And eventually, you look back and realize the result you were chasing wasn’t even the most important part.

It was who you had to become to get there.

One rep. One day. One step at a time.

WIN THE WAR WITHIN YOURSELF.

“The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.” -Plutarch

Underlying every struggle I face is a battle which must be fought within me.

Fear used to stop me in my tracks every single time. I always thought I needed to wait until I was ready.

Until I knew enough…
Until I looked better…
Until I had the money…

But that was just the voice of LIMITATION holding me in a place of stagnancy.

Every time I push through resistance in any form, I feel that voice go silent.

Who we want to be is on the other side of the discomfort.

We get closer, one battle at a time.

WIN THE WAR. by @nickbarrios44

DO IT FOR YOU.

When you’re motivated internally, with enough skin in the game and a big enough WHY… you will find a way to get it done.

I needed validation and external approval to feel like who I was and what I did was worth something. Not the case anymore.

Anyone who is successful comes from a place of deep pain and loss. I truly believe that.

There was a long time that passed in my life where I didn’t know if I wanted to continue. I just wanted the noise in my head to stop and it wouldn’t let up.

I’ve been freed from a hopeless state of body and mind and now that I’m here, I feel like I’m on “bonus life”. It should’ve been over 6 years ago.

But since I’m here, I’m going to make the most of it. Help people, bring joy and positivity, and leave the world better than you found it…

Because you’re worth it. 💜 by @nickbarrios44

TRAIN HARD AND TRAIN SMART.

Most athletes know how to work hard.

But working harder isn’t always the answer.

You can be strong and lack mobility,
Be fit and move inefficiently,
Be powerful and lack control, and
Be disciplined and under-recovered.

I’ll admit, I am guilty of this too with my own training.

Performance isn’t just about how much work you can tolerate. It’s about understanding what’s actually limiting you and training accordingly.

That limiter won’t always be the same.

It can change based on the movement, and
It DEFINITELY changes based on the athlete.

Assess. Investigate. Intervene. Reassess.

BUILD THE COMPLETE ATHLETE.

Which of the 9 is limiting you right now? 👇 by @nickbarrios44

DISCIPLINE AND CONSISTENCY - I never thought 8 months from my pec surgery that I would be doing all that I am right now. Big shout out to @frqncyperformance and @justbreatheyogawellness for helping me not just get back, but get BETTER than where I was. Recovery is not linear, and it requires so much more humility and patience than I could have ever anticipated. I am so grateful for the power of community. This is a thousand mile march, one step at a time, to infinity. And the best part, I never have to do it alone. 💜 💪 by @nickbarrios44
