Before you take skincare advice from me, you should probably get to know me.

I’m Nic. I’m 52, in menopause, and I’ve spent over 30 years working in skincare, as a therapist, educator and dabbled in a bit cosmetic formulation to relieve my inner scientist (geek)

And yes, my skin still likes to throw me a surprise.

I share skincare and wellness for women over 50, alongside the confidence wobbles, fresh starts and everyday moments that come with midlife.

A few things you should know:
🤎 I want healthy skin, rather than to look younger.
🤎 I believe you can be kind and ambitious.
🤎 I’ll happily choose an early night.
🤎 I don’t save my favourite clothes for best.
🤎 My position on Crocs remains firm. 😂

I take women’s concerns seriously, especially when we feel unheard. And I believe we’re allowed to change our minds, start again and be proud of ourselves while we’re still figuring things out.

So… are we exclusive yet?

Glowing skin over 50 doesn’t have to mean a complicated routine.

This is the 5-minute morning routine that’s helping my skin stay hydrated, brighter and protected every single day.

✨ Cleanse
✨ Gentle exfoliation
✨ Hyaluronic acid for hydration
✨ Vitamin C for brightness
✨ Peptides to support the skin barrier
✨ SPF 50 every single morning

The biggest difference I’ve noticed hasn’t come from using more products, it’s come from being consistent.

If you’re over 50 and wondering where to start with skincare, keep it simple, focus on the basics, and don’t skip your SPF.

What’s one skincare product you couldn’t live without? Tell me in the comments! 👇

Radiant skin over 50 starts with supporting the skin, not overwhelming it.

The @officialmedik8 Exo-PDRN Prismatic+ Youthful Vitality Serum is one I genuinely believe is worth knowing about for mature skin concerns like dullness, dehydration, uneven skin tone, compromised barrier and loss of firmness.

It’s designed to help skin look more luminous, plump, resilient and revitalised — exactly what so many women over 50 are looking for in a serum.

It’s currently £79 in the UK for 30ml, so yes, it is an investment. But for me, this is the kind of serum that earns its place in a mature skincare routine because it targets several key concerns at once, rather than making you feel like you need five different products to get that healthier, fresher-looking glow.
If your skin doesn’t feel as fresh or firm as it used to, this is one I’d genuinely have on your radar. by @nicolajonesuk

Your skin has changed. Your skincare questions deserve better than another sales pitch. 🤎

What actually works for skin over 50? Which new products deserve your money? And what can you do about dryness, dullness and makeup that suddenly sits differently?

That’s what we talk about here.

I’m Nicola, 52, with 30 years’ experience in skincare as a beauty therapist and product knowledge trainer. I’m in menopause too, so I bring professional knowledge and personal experience to the conversation.

Every week, you’ll find:
✨ Skincare tutorials, barrier care and ingredients explained.
✨ New beauty products — the claims, the evidence and what they could mean for you.
✨ Makeup tips for mature skin.
✨ Achievable wellness ideas for everyday midlife.
✨ A little beauty nostalgia and a proper chat.

My aim is simple: to help you understand your skin, make informed choices and feel confident about where you spend your money.

This catch-up is a taster. The full conversations are on my grid @nicolajonesuk — and there’s always something useful to bring into next week.

Using tretinoin and azelaic acid together over 50?
Here’s my simple night routine for smoother, brighter-looking skin without overloading my skin barrier.

If you’re a woman in your 50s using active skincare for pigmentation, redness, uneven skin tone, texture, dullness, breakouts or ageing skin, the order you apply your products matters.

This is the routine I follow:

Cleanse first.

Then hyaluronic acid for hydration.

Then tretinoin — a pea size for whole face.

Then azelaic acid for redness, pigmentation and large pores.

Then moisturiser to support the skin barrier.

More product does not mean faster results. More actives does not mean better skin. This is about smart layering, treating from the bottom up.

With tretinoin and azelaic acid, the goal is consistency, not irritation.

No extra exfoliants.
No overloading the skin.

Save this tretinoin and azelaic acid routine if you’re over 50 and want smoother skin, brighter skin, improved pigmentation, less redness and a stronger skin barrier.
*Always follow the manufacturer’s guidance instructions and do not apply Tretinoin, Azelaic Acid or any other actives on broken skin*
Products:
@anua_global PDRN + Hyaluronic Acid Capsule 100 Serum
@byoma Longevit-8 Pepride Serum
Tret: (prescription) Acnelyse 0.05%.
Azelaic Acid: Aziderm (online pharmacy) 20% Azelaic Acid Cream.
Byoma: Barrier Repair Treatment.

@chanel.beauty Lip & Cheek Berry Boost. I finally got one! 🥳🥳 by @nicolajonesuk

Wellness Wednesdays.
Porridge for lunch is underrated.

This is my go-to when I want something warm, filling and comforting but still want to avoid the 3pm snack spiral.

Oats for fibre, Greek yoghurt for protein, cinnamon for flavour, and a little honey for sweetness.

Save this for the next time you can’t face another salad.

Lunch porridge bowl:
Oats
Milk or water
Greek yoghurt
Manuka honey
Cinnamon

A small mark. Easy to overlook. I’m so glad I got it checked.

Earlier this summer, a fairly unnoticeable mark on my leg was diagnosed as Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC), the most common type of skin cancer. It usually grows slowly, but it still needs treatment.

This week, I had it surgically removed. I’m now giving my shin time to heal, and I’ll share little updates along the way.

My reason for sharing is simple: please don’t dismiss a skin change because it looks small or insignificant.

A new or changing mark, or a patch that keeps bleeding, scabbing or won’t heal, deserves a GP appointment.

Getting your skin checked is worth making time for. 🤍

Save this as your reminder, or share it with someone who’s been putting off a skin check.

This is my naturally flushed makeup look at 52—soft skin, rosy cheeks and a little definition.

I start with @charlottetilbury Unreal Skin foundation stick in 5 Medium, then @gatineau_skincare Miracle Eye Contour Cream under my eyes.

For the eyes, I use Charlotte Tilbury’s Unreal Highlighter in Glazed Goddess and Exagger-Eyes eyeshadow stick in Nude Sculpt.

@roseinc cream bronzer in Seychelles adds warmth, then Chanel Berry Boost Lip and Cheek gives my cheeks and lips that fresh flush.

I finish with @uklash Lift Gel mascara, @hdbrowsofficial Brow Glue and a light dusting of @narsissist Translucent Crystal Setting Powder.

That’s my everyday makeup at 52—fresh, naturally flushed and still very much me.

Over 50 and tackling dullness, dark spots and uneven skin texture? This is where tretinoin and azelaic acid fit into my routine. 🤎

At 52, this is my autumn treatment night for more radiant-looking skin—with hydration and skin barrier support built in.

Tretinoin and azelaic acid do different jobs, which is why I use them together in my established routine.
But stronger actives need a thoughtful approach, especially when your mature skin is already dry or sensitive.

That’s where smart layering comes in.

I include a hydration base and finish with barrier support, rather than focusing only on the treatment steps.

During menopause, skin can struggle to retain moisture. Protecting the skin barrier deserves a place alongside targeting pigmentation, fine lines and rough texture.

My rule? Build this routine carefully. Layering doesn’t prevent irritation, and more frequent treatment isn’t better your skin is struggling.

‼️Precautions:
• Introduce each separately before layering them.
* Apply to dry skin and follow your prescriber’s directions.
* Use a gentle moisturiser and daily broad-spectrum SPF 30–50.
* If layering feels too much, use azelaic acid in the morning and tretinoin at night, or alternate nights.
