In a conversation about grief and receiving guidance from the other side, this was the moment that tipped me over the edge! Iโ€™m still trying to compose myself!๐Ÿ˜ฉ It wasnโ€™t just the statement itself, but the conviction in the delivery. Thereโ€™s a quiet part of you asking for space to breathe. โœจ You can sense something deeper calling - a shift that canโ€™t be captured in a checklist or diagnosis. If that sounds familiar, this might be your sign to begin. In my practice, I assess what is happening in the heart - not the DSM-5. Because while clinical insight matters, the soul often speaks in a different language: through emotion, intuition, story, and meaning. Iโ€™m now accepting new 1:1 therapy clients (virtual and in-person in the Chicago area). My work blends psychology and spirituality โ€” for those navigating transitions, burnout, or the in-between spaces of becoming. Earlier this fall, I had the profound honor of being a guest on @oprahpodcast - sharing about the sacred, complex, and deeply human experience of grieving the loss of my mom. Grief has been one of my greatest teachers - an initiation into everlasting love, loss, and what it means to keep living with an open heart. On the podcast featuring author and psychic medium, Laura Lynn Jackson, we talked about how to stay connected to our loved ones after they transition - and how to be in a new kind of relationship. To speak about this journey and find meaning in the spaces between โ€“ it was a moment Iโ€™ll never forget. If youโ€™ve ever experienced loss, or are walking through it now, I hope this conversation offers light and healing along the way. ๐ŸŽง Tune in to ๐˜›๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜–๐˜ฑ๐˜ณ๐˜ข๐˜ฉ ๐˜ž๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ง๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜บ ๐˜—๐˜ฐ๐˜ฅ๐˜ค๐˜ข๐˜ด๐˜ต (link in bio) to listen. #BetweenWorlds #GriefAndGrace #OprahWinfreyPodcast #HealingJourney #LossAndLove #SpiritualGrowth #TherapyAndSoul by @nicoleltownsend
Finding the right therapist is probably one of the most important decisions youโ€™ll ever make. If youโ€™re ready to move beyond insight, be challenged, and actually do something different with what you learn about yourself, youโ€™re in the right place. I have a few virtual and in person slots available in the Chicago area. Presence and humor are both mandatory. Can therapists be harmed in the room, too? Iโ€™ll admit, this was a difficult essay to write! Not because I was afraid to say what I think, (NEVA THAT) but because this is a part of therapy that can be easy to overlook, uncomfortable to name, and complicated to talk about without losing sight of the client. Therapists are human beings in the room, too. Being compassionate does not require pretending that impact doesnโ€™t exist. Whew! Between Worlds got a facelift over the weekend, and I think sheโ€™s stunning, if I do say so myself! A little more grown, intentional and still very much herself. Honestly, she was due. I was starting to feel like I was running a publication with no personality whatsoever. New essay alert: โ€œThe Clinical Alibiโ€ ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Iโ€™ve spent years watching this field turn behaviors into a whole clinical formulation. Withdrawal isnโ€™t always shutdown. Sarcasm isnโ€™t always self-protection. And no, your nervous system didnโ€™t make you do that. This oneโ€™s personal, itโ€™s pointed, and yeah โ€” it might ruffle some feathers in certain therapy circles. Iโ€™m cool with that. Link in bio. Thereโ€™s a prompt floating around on Substack that I just had to try: Ask ChatGPT to warn people about me before they meet me. Lolโ€ฆ.honestly, the results felt less like a warning and more like a legally required disclosure. Consider this your advance notice: I notice things, I ask inconveniently accurate questions, I will probably overanalyze the meaning of a dream, and if you matter to me, Iโ€™m going to see you clearly. Iโ€™m not saying proceed with caution. Iโ€™m saying youโ€™ve been warned. ๐Ÿ–ค by @nicoleltownsend
This boundaries note is having a moment and honestly? Good. Because most of what gets called โ€œboundary workโ€ out there is just a nicer way of saying โ€œI hope this magically fixes itselfโ€ A boundary isnโ€™t a sentence. Itโ€™s not a vibe. Itโ€™s not something you whisper once and then feel betrayed when nobody listens. Itโ€™s what youโ€™re willing to do โ€” again and again โ€” even when it costs you the comfort of being liked in the moment. This is the kind of thing I get into every week over on Between Worlds โ€” where I skip the โ€œmanifest it, babeโ€ wellness script and actually talk about what it takes to be a person with a spine and a soul. If that post found you at the right time, thereโ€™s more where it came from. Come sit in the in-between with me. ๐Ÿ”— link in bio by @nicoleltownsend
I stopped waiting for grief to loosen its grip before I let myself return to my life. There was no clean ending, no moment when I could say, Iโ€™m done grieving now. So I rebuilt a life beside it. Grief stayed. So did I. Full essay on the Substack โ€” link in bio. ๐Ÿ’› . . . . #grief #griefjourney #betweenworlds #therapist by @nicoleltownsend
Shooting my shot for a sponsorship with @bloomsupps because at this point, Iโ€™m basically providing unpaid brand exposure. I drink them. I talk about them.
