This time of year is always difficult for me. As for the fire- 15 different fire companies came out (w more on standby.) It took over 12 hours to put out and reignited in the attic making this one of the longest nights of my life. Watching the place I’ve created endless memories just burn down was heartbreaking. There was nothing I could do but pray that we didn’t lose everything. But we did. Photos, childhood items that were supposed to be passed down, timeless furniture from past generations, artwork, journals, clothes, electronics/ gaming systems, cosmetics, jewelry etc. Everything that doesn’t burn is ruined w the chemical foam they use to put the fire out. And the temperatures that certain products and items get to in the heat make them toxic, therefore, unusable. Luckily, my family and I were ok.. During our temporary stay at a hotel- a guest had fallen asleep while cooking something in their room. This set off the fire alarms in the middle of the night and everyone had to evacuate. It really felt like we were being “punked”. I still feel anxiety to this day when I smell smoke and don’t know where it’s coming from. The memories show up on my phone and I am in awe year after year of all that has happened since. It’s astonishing how time flies. It has been 5 years since the fire. 5 years without Christopher Atkinson. 4 years without my little brother, John. 3 years without Poppop butch. 2 years without Haley Godino and so much more behind the scenes. Grief has no expiration date. 🤍 Some days we need a little extra patience and time to recharge. Reminder to always have a grateful heart and tell the ones you love how much they mean to you. 💘 & Be patient w people as you truly never know what they’ve got going on. Count your blessings 🪴🤍🙏🏼 • • #fire #housefire #firefighter #loss #grief #anniversary #sad #familyfirst by @nicolerotelle
