The 10-day Orientation Course for Wildlife Health & Management for Veterinary Officers of Assam commenced today with a formal inaugural session! 🐾 Dr. Ruchi Badola, Dean FWS & Dr. S. Sathyakumar, Registrar graced the inaugural session. Dr. Parag Nigam introduced the workshop. There’s not a word yet for old friends who’ve just met - Jim Henson

We met on Dec19, 1989.
Parag Nigam , all the way from Himachal , joined us for our Veterinary course and gained a special place, not just in our hearts but the whole College. He became our close Northi friend , who found it easier to learn Malayalam than teaching Hindi to his Malayali classmates.

Few days ago, I got a call from him in which he started the conversation with the “good” Malayalam he had learned from Thrissur. He told me that he is on his way to the US for a conference and will be in Dubai for two days. I was delighted to know that we will be meeting finally, (after 26 years!) after being in touch over the phone and social media.

Parag now heads the division of Wildlife health Management in Wildlife Institute of India in which he has played a key role in large carnivore and mega herbivore conservation in India and steered in the first ever tiger reintroduction program- Sariska Tiger Reserve in the country. He has also been instrumental in establishing the Indian Gaur population in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve. Dr. Parag also has been offering technical support in capture of free ranging elephants in Chhattisgarh, tigers in Maharashtra, hangul in Jammu & Kashmir, swamp deer in Uttarakhand as well as managing wild animals in distress.
Though he had an extremely hectic schedule, he found time to peep into my collection and happily gifted this lovely mug. Another addition to my mugs family. by @arungorati
