Our solo horseback trek through the wilderness of Mongolia was absolutely wild, so far outside our comfort zone, and it didn’t go as smoothly as it looked in the video. It was our first time packing with horses and we were really nervous, about taking care of 3 horses in the middle of nowhere with no phone signal. The start of the trek was amazing, the sun was shining, it was warm and it was way easier to take care of the horses than we thought it would be. Riding through the steppe, crossing rivers and waking up surrounded by yaks was a dream!

On our way back, the real adventure started. We lost the long lines along the way, and only noticed hours later, so we had to ride all the way back, hoping to find them again, luckily we did! Then the temperatures dropped below -4 degrees at night and we woke up to a frozen tent. And Nik got kicked in the butt by his horse - he’s okay 😂😳

But we managed it all and are so grateful that we did it. The entire trip had this pinch me please feeling to it, it just felt so unreal and still does. It’s one of these trips we’ll never forget and will tell our grandkids about one day.

We got rented the horses @stepperiders_mongolia and also did a 4 day bootcamp before, to learn how to pack and take care of the horses the Mongolian way. And the rides we had with their horseman were also absolutely wild and so much fun!

1 couple and 3 horse in the Mongolian steppe. 🐴

The plan was 100km on horse back through Mongolia…🇲🇳

Our horses slept next to yaks!!!! Like pinch me please! 🥹

Morning snuggles somewhere in the middle of nowhere 🤍

How is this life?! 💭

Adventure buddies for life! If you would have told me a year ago I would be riding horses in Mongolia I wouldn’t have believed you a bit! 🥹

So many semi wild horses and yaks! We’ve never seen a yak before! 🥰

🥹💭🤍

We shared the river with yaks and horses, one river for everyone to drink and wash. 🤍

Sammy: My adventure buddy. And definitely a character!! 🤍

No luxury hotels. No perfectly planned itinerary.
Just horses, endless landscapes, tiny camps, long days in the saddle and nights somewhere in the middle of the steppe. 🐎🇲🇳

The beauty of travelling through Mongolia ✨

📍 Could you live a few weeks like this?!
