POSTS STORIES REELS

To bring an end to what has been an extraordinary year, we are incredibly proud to announce the launch of the first-ever NiMSA TO-WaSH magazine: "𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗮𝗦𝗛 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗹𝗹." 📖✨

This magazine was birthed from a need for documentation and continuity; the magazine captures key moments, reflections, and advocacy efforts from the TO-WaSH ’25 tenure. While it is not exhaustive, it reflects the work, voices, and commitment that shaped the year. It features contributions from across Nigeria, WaSH-focused discussions, and exclusive interviews.

We also extend our sincere thanks to everyone who joined us yesterday to celebrate a year of impact and advancing WaSH for all. 🩵

As we close this chapter, we invite you to read, engage with, and share the Advancing WaSH for All magazine:

Summary of Partnership Between Sui Generis and NiMSA TO-WaSH on the Adopt-A-School Sanitation Project

The Sui Generis × NiMSA TO-WASH partnership successfully implemented a series of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) outreach activities across multiple schools, aimed at improving sanitation infrastructure, promoting hygiene education, and building sustainable, student-led systems.
Key interventions included the construction and renovation of sanitation facilities, restoration of water supply systems, installation of functional taps, and comprehensive hygiene sensitization sessions for students. Outreach programs were carried out at Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) Otte-Oja, AMB International College, Egbejila (Phase I & II), and Moro LGA School.

Beyond infrastructure, students were engaged through interactive health talks, demonstrations on proper handwashing and toilet hygiene, storytelling, peer education, and leadership training. To ensure sustainability, School WASH Clubs were established and supported, with teachers assigned as supervisors and students inducted as hygiene ambassadors. Essential WASH materials and certificates of recognition were also presented to participating schools.

Overall, the project strengthened access to clean water, increased hygiene awareness, encouraged behavioural change, and fostered a lasting culture of cleanliness within school communities—contributing meaningfully to SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).
Together, Sui Generis and NiMSA TO-WASH remain committed to creating healthier schools, empowered students, and sustainable sanitation systems—one school at a time.

RECAP: MONTHLY ACTIVITY CALENDAR 2025
We began the monthly activity calendar, from April, which we shared at the beginning of each month with the team to keep everyone on track.

The July activity was changed to adopt-a-school project and September, collapsed into a training session ~ THE WASH VANGUARD PROGRAM. We're so glad we were able to achieve everything on the calendar and then, some. 🩵

This was a great tool for monitoring and evaluation and it is highly recommended. 🤗

𝗔𝗗𝗩𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗪𝗔𝗦𝗛 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗔𝗟𝗟!
What started as a vision became work, learning, service, and impact. Through every challenge and every small win, we stayed committed to the cause and to the people it serves. 🩵

As we draw the curtains on this chapter, we do so with gratitude for the hands that labored, the minds that planned, and the hearts that stayed committed even when progress felt slow. 🥹🩵
The work does not end here, but this moment deserves to be honoured. 👑

TO-WASH YEAR IN REVIEW: THE ADOPT-A-SCHOOL PIONEER PROJECT 🩵🩵

In August, the TO-WaSH Adopt-A-School Pioneer Project was implemented across three Medical Students’ Associations: UMSA, KASUMSA, and IFUMSA. Despite limited resources, the project was successfully executed, demonstrating the strength of planning, collaboration, and student-led commitment.

At UMSA, the project followed a structured three-phase approach: initial stakeholder engagement, a theoretical health education phase, and a concluding practical phase. The intervention was reinforced with the donation of a handwashing station, including a bucket with a tap and soap, ensuring that learning translated into everyday practice.

KASUMSA adopted a continuity-focused model through a series of visits, allowing for sustained engagement with students. The final visit culminated in an Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) outreach, linking hygiene practices to the wider public health challenge of AMR.
Overall, the project recorded strong participation from students and school authorities and achieved its core objectives.

The success of the Pioneer Project highlights the impact of focused WaSH interventions and sets a strong foundation for future expansion.

✨ MEET OUR SPEAKERS ✨

We’re really excited to introduce the amazing women who will be speaking at the NiMSA Female Leadership Summit 2025 💜

These are women who have built meaningful careers in medicine, public health, leadership, and advocacy, and who are actively doing impactful work beyond the hospital space. They each have unique journeys, real experiences, and lessons that every medical student can learn from.

At this summit, they’ll be sharing their stories, the decisions they made along the way, the challenges they faced, and the opportunities that exist when you look beyond the traditional clinical path.

If you’ve ever wondered what else you can do with a medical degree, this is a conversation you don’t want to miss.
