HOW THE RACE WILL WORK:
So this is the message you’ve all been waiting for! 🏁

There will be 2 routes. Route is a loose term, it’s a list of checkpoints with coordinates to each of them which you will need to go out and complete. 🗺️

The list is done in order to what we think is the fastest way to complete the route … however you can do it in whatever order you like BUT there is a 2hr 30 minute cut off! So if you don’t finish in that time you’re out.

Both routes have the exact same checkpoints just in a slightly different order - one route is not faster than the other!

At registration you will be divided into two groups. Both groups will be starting at the exact same time but be going into different directions. Don’t worry we won’t be splitting you from your friends.

HOW WILL WE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE GONE TO EACH CHECKPOINT? 🫣
Well on your number boards you will notice they are very empty looking, that’s because most of the checkpoints will have a sign in the ground with a pack of stickers attached to it!

You need to grab one sticker and put it on your number board at each point.

Some of the checkpoints you will need to take a photo at and upload them to your instagram story tagging @whoshotpippa and @deusexmachina.za so we can keep track. There is a prize for best selfie with the statue of Danie Craven and his dog, Bliksem! 🏆

Other checkpoints will be sponsor activation stations and you will need to complete a challenge to get your sticker in order to move onto the next one. You will also need to upload a photo or video at sponsor stations tagging Deus, whoshotpippa and the sponsor! ⚡️

Welcome to the first ever Nine Lives alley cat race! 🐈‍⬛🏁

First things first. If you can no longer make it PLEASE let us know so someone else can ride.

Secondly … PLEASE stay for prize giving at 15:30PM at the race start/ finish (Deus, Stellies)! There will be beers available and pizzas to share. We don’t have too many - this is a free event we can’t afford to buy everyone a whole pizza. 😉

Then if you are racing in a relay team (this is for riders not wanting to do the full race/ or maybe you are sharing your bike with a mate):
- this means one of you will do the first few checkpoints then when you get back to Deus at the halfway mark your mate will go off and do the rest of them!
- You will now both be receiving number boards. 😎

REGISTRATION AT 12:00PM
Note that there is minimal parking in Stellies and you will most likely be parking a bit far from Deus so make sure you have enough time to get to us. (We don’t recommend leaving anything of value in your cars just in case.)

Registration starts at 12:00PM so ride your bike to Deus, grab a coffee, chat a bit, sign those indemnity forms. We will be handing out the number boards and then will be doing a race briefing which is very important! 👀

We will have a large map printed out showing you all the checkpoints, waterpoints, danger areas and activation stations! ⚠️

WHAT TO BRING
- A fully charged phone with internet, maps and a working camera.
- ⁠Any bike spares you will need.
- ⁠A rain jacket - it’s going to be cold and possibly a bit muddy but we shouldn’t have any rain! 🙏
- ⁠Your water bottles and snacks.

And don’t forget that we highly encourage you to dress up! This isn’t a normal race, it’s fun, there will be a best dressed prize! 🏆

As we all know most of us cyclists are all coffee snobs, a bad cup of coffee can really ruin your day. Which we completely understand and agree with!

That’s why when we asked @canyoncafe_za to join us for our race we insisted that their coffee business @mood_coffee_co had to be involved too. ☕️

Canyon Cafe is a bike slash coffee slash socks slash sometimes even pancake shop 😉

It’s one hell of a sick place. We can’t wait for you guys to go visit tomorrow. 👏

We love brands that give back to the community! Which is why when we made a list of brands we wanted to support our race we made sure Sox was on it. 🧦

Sox has been a part of the cycling community for many years and have always put an effort in to give back! Whether it’s hosting their own events, to supporting athletes or even supporting small little events like ours that are here to give back, Sox is always there! 👏
