Can you believe #kidlitartpostcard day is 5 years old?! Thanks to @ginaperry_books for starting this fabulous event to showcase children’s illustration work.

Today’s postcard theme is the kid versions of ourselves, and what better way to do that than with all my favorite childhood foods? And yes, I really did start drinking coffee around age 7. Maybe even 5?

I created this little comic in Comics Class yesterday with the prompt “unique framing.” I drew myself inspired by the Ivan Brunetti’s way of drawing characters, and somehow landed on a circle full of circle-shaped foods.

And now I kind of want to turn this into a board book about foods and shapes. Don’t steal it, okay?!

If you wanna make this happen, reach out!

This comic is for the book lovers, homebodies, and introverts who would rather stay home and read ‘a really good book.’

Don’t get me wrong, I love being out with friends and family, but sometimes you just can’t put that book down.

I’m in my fourth cohort of Comics Class with @janeporterillustrator, and last week our prompt was to make a list comic. This idea popped into my head right away, and I made the whole thing in under two hours, which felt like a tiny miracle in my very busy and slightly chaotic life right now. Book deadlines! 8th-grade graduation events! So many fun things!

I felt like this one was too good not to share. I may or may not have given any one of the excuses before! Sorry, not sorry. by @superjanesmith

Day 30 of #repostyourart hosted by @byjessicaelena

Prompt 30: Whimsical

How is it already the last day of this fun repost challenge?! I loved revisiting my past work this month, and it makes me appreciate again and again what an amazing job I have!

I’m resharing a whimsical fairy tree home project for a client that never got past the test phase. It was super fun to draw, and it makes me want to revisit and see what I could come up with today. Thank you for stopping by this past month and looking at my reshares! 🎉

Day 28 of #repostyourart hosted by @byjessicaelena

Prompt 28: Cottage

I love that I get to revisit this one. It’s not my typical style, but oh my gosh, so fun to draw! It took me forever to figure out the perspective and everything I wanted to show in her cottage kitchen. I can say, I’m super proud of this one and I want to move right in!

Day 27 of #repostyourart hosted by @byjessicaelena

Prompt 27: Garden

Some of my favorite garden-inspired illustrations, along with the cover of a wonderful book I got to illustrate called ‘The Yoga Game, In The Garden’, written by the lovely @kathyrbeliveau

Unfortunately, Chicago’s spring weather is still too cold to plant, but I have seen some brave souls already take the plunge. Let’s hope we have some warmer weather soon...any day now!

Prompt 26: Mushroom

There is no better drawing prompt than MUSHROOM! My favorite things to draw are mushrooms and ladybugs! The first image is my favorite illustration of all time, and the rest are some of my other favorite mushroom illustrations! Mushroom drawings for days!

Day 25 of #repostyourart hosted by @byjessicaelena

Prompt 25: Abstract

Back in 2016, I did my first (and only) 100 Day Project, in which I actually followed through. The prompt I set for myself was to create 100 digital drawings in Adobe Illustrator. It actually was a very successful way to help me learn how to use the program. I wanted to be able to create vector illustrations in Illustrator and also learn how to add texture. Seems so simple now, but back then I had no clue how to do it! Many of the pieces I made actually led to book projects and licensing work! To this day, I still make passive income from it!

Anyway, on to Abstract... this was the fourth day, and I remember I was just happy to play with simple shapes and color. Two years later, I got to license the art to Crate and Kids and see it IN STORES! It was a dream come true! I even purchased one for myself and have it up in my studio.
