One of the biggest things I’m learning in my post-college athlete era is that taking care of yourself is a form of growth, too. 🤍

After years of training for a sport, I’m learning how to move my body because I want to, not because I have to.

In July, I ran my first mile without stopping. Today, I ran my first 10K.

And while I’m proud of the distance, the bigger accomplishment has been rebuilding my relationship with my body - learning to appreciate where I am while continuing to work toward where I want to be.

Post-grad hasn’t been the easiest transition. When so much of your identity has been connected to being an athlete, finding your purpose and learning who you are outside of your sport takes time.

But I’m realizing that taking care of myself isn’t just about me. It’s about becoming the person I want to be for the people I get to coach, lead, encourage, and pour into.
I want to be an example that growth doesn’t always happen overnight, that taking care of yourself matters, and that you can continue moving forward even when you’re still figuring things out.

I’m not exactly where I want to be, but I’m proud that I’m moving in the right direction. by @niya_hewitt

Looking back at the girl who moved away at 15 from the UK, I know she’d be proud of how far we’ve come.

When I came to Oregon I had no idea how much this place would impact my life. Through @oregonacrotumb , @goducksw , and @goduckathleticfund, I was surrounded by people who believed in me, challenged me, and helped me grow into the woman I am today. The friendships, memories, and experiences from these last few years are ones I’ll carry with me forever.

My first month of college I was told, “Go be big & do great things” and that’s something I’d encourage everyone to embrace.

To the sport that gave me more than I could have ever dreamed of, thank you. I love you, and I already know I’ll find my way back to give to you what you gave to me.

@oregonacrotumb - you made little me’s dreams come true. You gave me sisters, a home, and a purpose bigger than myself. I will forever be grateful for every moment and to always be a Duck 💛💚

My senior year didn’t look the way I had envisioned it. A broken rib, a partially torn UCL, and nerve issues weren’t part of the plan, but growth rarely is. This year challenged me in ways I didn’t expect, but it also strengthened me mentally and emotionally in ways I’ll carry with me far beyond this sport.

Within two days of each other, Coach T and my best friend @abbykbyrd both brought up Jeremiah 29:11, and it was the reminder I needed. I’ve always believed that everything happens for a reason, and that God has a perfect plan, even when we don’t understand it in the moment. God’s plan is always greater, even when it feels uncertain. by @niya_hewitt
