One of the biggest challenges young players face isn’t always a lack of effort or motivation.

It’s not knowing exactly what they need to improve, why certain situations keep happening in games, or how to turn feedback into meaningful progress.

That’s why I created the Complete Pro Pathway™ mentorship through NL Pro Soccer Development.

After more than 10 years playing professionally across Europe, alongside completing my doctorate in Sport & Performance Psychology, I’ve learned how important it is for athletes to understand their own development.
And that’s exactly what I want to help young players do.

Through individualized mentorship, I combine:
Game analysis to identify technical and tactical development priorities.
Personalized development plans that give players direction in training.
Mental performance coaching to develop confidence, focus, and skills for handling pressure.
Ongoing feedback, reflection, and accountability to support long-term progress.

My goal isn’t to simply tell players what to do. It’s to help them understand their game, become more independent, and take ownership of their development.

Because becoming a better soccer player isn’t just about doing more.
It’s about understanding what you’re doing, why you’re doing it, and how it contributes to your development.

PARENTS: If your child is serious about improving but needs more individualized direction, I’d love to help.

Your child doesn’t necessarily need more training. They need to understand what they’re training for.

One of the biggest challenges in youth soccer development is knowing exactly what to work on.

A player can train multiple times a week, attend extra sessions, and play every weekend, but still struggle to understand what is holding them back and what they actually need to work on.

That’s why my approach at NLPSD goes beyond simply telling players what they need to improve.

It’s all about building a process around the individual:
1. Understand the player’s goals and current environment.
2. Analyze their performances and identify patterns.
3. Create specific, actionable development priorities.
4. Develop mental performance skills alongside technical and tactical abilities.
5. Apply those skills in training and competition.
6. Reflect, evaluate progress, and adjust the plan.

The goal isn’t to make players dependent on a coach for every answer.
It’s to help them become more aware, confident, accountable, and independent in their development.

With over 10 years of professional playing experience and a doctorate in Sport & Performance Psychology, I combine firsthand experience with evidence-informed coaching to help players better understand their pathway.

Parents: Does your child know exactly what they’re working to improve right now?

My goal is to help players and parents learn their path to the level their aspire to play at. I believe that everyone has their own path to take and I work towards helping players and parents find that path.

It’s not just extra training. It’s all about finding and utilizes the resources you need to get to the higher level.

When I was younger, I was only focused on improving my technical ability.

But as I progressed through different professional environments, I realized how important tactical understanding was in determining WHICH technical skills I needed and WHEN to use them.

A good first touch means very little if you don’t recognize where the pressure is coming from.

Being able to play a long pass is different from recognizing when switching the play is the best decision.

And being able to dribble past someone doesn’t mean dribbling is always the right solution.

The game should help guide your development.

When you understand the tactical demands of your position and the situations you face, you can become much more intentional about what you practice.

This is one of the reasons I emphasize game analysis and tactical understanding in my work with young players.

Players: Are you practicing skills just to improve them, or because you understand when you need them in a game?

One of the most important skills young soccer players can develop is the ability to evaluate their performances beyond the final score or how many goals they scored.

A player might not have their best game statistically but still make meaningful progress in areas they’ve been working to improve.

For example:
Did they attempt to use their weaker foot more often?
Did they apply feedback their coach gave them during training?
Did they recognize better passing options or make smarter movements off the ball?
Did they recover their focus after making a mistake?

These are all important things to consider when reflecting on a performance.

The goal of reflection isn’t to criticize everything that went wrong. It’s to recognize progress, identify learning opportunities, and create direction for the next training session or game.

And for parents, remember that reflection doesn’t always have to happen immediately after the final whistle. Sometimes your child needs time to recover, process their emotions, and simply enjoy being a kid.

Want to help your child reflect more intentionally?

I’ve created a FREE NLPSD Match Day Reflection Guide that helps players evaluate their technical, tactical, physical, and mental performance while identifying their next development priorities.

My mission with my analysis feedback to clients is to give them all the tiny details that make things click in their head so they know what they need to work/focus on so they can actually see improvement in their trainings and games.

Game understanding isn’t just about looking at what you’re doing right or wrong but what options you have and can create within many different game situations and how to solve situations.

Behind the scenes of me doing an analysis call with a client.

You don’t see the game because we were analyzing a professional game together, but this gives you an idea of the language I use with clients to help them see and understand situations while asking them what they see and going over situations together.

This can be very helpful when watching your own games so you have a better idea of what you can do for yourself with your team. by @nlprosoccerdevelopment

Some players can be confused on the use of self talk and I hope this gives some clarity.

This isn’t the only mental skill I teach athletes but it is an important mental skill to develop and utilize specifically for yourself.

Just an example of how Edgardo coaches his players in not only his group sessions but also as a guest coach.

For him, it’s all about the fundamentals and being able to play with confidence and competence under pressure, which shows in this clip from one of the games he coached.
