POSTS STORIES REELS

i’m resuming the archival series after a 3-year hiatus, starting with a standalone version of the ‘𝐏𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐌𝐀’ remixes (originally the second half of the digital release) - it’s NYOP for #bandcampfriday - i kind of wish i’d separated them from the main album upon initial release, but all the mixes were ready to go at that point (this would never happen nowadays) and ‘pharma’ had the potential of dropping as a total behemoth - and so we decided to package it as such - i would never think of axing the remixes from the original bandcamp page (some of you paid for those extra 16 tracks), nor would orange milk, but if you’re incredibly OCD or particular about how you file your digital releases, here’s your chance to split the double-album into two individual releases - nerdy shit aside, this is personally an excuse to a) remain thorough in the chronological nature of the ‘𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐀 𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐂𝐇’ series, and b) prepare for a sleazy new collection of goated reworks off a more recent project... 🍍

many of my favorite artists contributed to this release, musicians i’ve followed / idolized since i was a teenager (ken schalk of candiria, odd nosdam of cLOUDDEAD, brian of FSOL) - i’m still amazed at the lineup - it was one of those specific moment-in-time scenarios, a very 2017-coded roster that could never be replicated again - yes, these tracks were previously available, but maybe this will get some new ears on some eccentric reinterpretations from legends that i’ve looked up to for more than half of my time on this planet, and peers i’ve had the pleasure of releasing music alongside the past decade - indulge, and stay tuned.

shannon and i are cross-posting, but i wanted to say a few things myself and share a few pictures.

rest in power wicket (AKA “bunny”) - guardian of the hallway - owner of the loudest purr-box - after 15 years she’s left us to join up with gomez, mama cat and “dude cat” - she was the sweetest, and the fluffiest (hence, her nickname) - she’d follow me from room to room and demand my attention at all times - i had a moment this morning where i was expecting her to startle me by clawing at my side while i was at the computer - i don’t like being jump-scared, but i would have appreciated it today.

my collection of ambient sketches ‘𝐄𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐂 𝐎𝐂𝐄𝐀𝐍’ from 2004 is getting its first ever physical release, exclusively through egoscapes (@shinyironvaliant) - a small run of cassettes will go live this coming friday (05/29) at 9:00 AM EST - i did what i could to give the album a much-needed remaster, despite the fact that most of the original recording sessions are lost forever - some of y’all have been asking about physicals of this one for years now, so i’d urge you set an alarm cos these will most likely go quick - and once you’ve secured your copy, you’ll have the rest of the day to focus on soaking in the new BoC and attending the backrooms premiere (that’s my plan, at least). 🔥

remastered digital version is up now - stay sharp...

i recently gave my first interview in years, for stephan kunze’s 𝐳𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐬 blog on substack, where i attempted to break down my musical history and what led up to my latest release ‘the molokai compendium’ on @doomtriprecords - big thanks to stephan for taking the time to talk to me, and to you for taking the time to read it.

“Louisville, Kentucky-based producer Alex Koenig alias @nmeshofficial is electronic music royalty. After dedicating the first decade of his career to Warp-inspired IDM, he produced at least three classic albums of the burgeoning vaporwave genre between 2013 and 2015, one of them a split with the mighty Telepath at the height of his early fame.

In those years, Nmesh made a lasting impact on the scene that continues to this day, as new generations of vaporwave producers stumble across Dream Sequins, The Path to Lost Eden or his massive multitrack DJ mix Welcome To Warp Zone.

Alex’s output slowed down in the latter half of the decade, especially after his experimental post-vapor-album Pharma (2017). An unplanned hiatus was prolonged by the COVID lockdowns and a personal loss, but he finally released a new full-length album, The Molokai Compendium, in 2025 – a hugely entertaining and humorous plunderphonics record inspired by The Black Dog records and 1980s B-movies.

For this Vapor Talk, Alex and I spent a good hour talking about his impressive music career of 25 years, from his start in metal bands and making weird Weezer edits, to bringing his IDM production chops into the early vaporwave scene, to losing inspiration during the pandemic and finding it back through stumbling across a ridiculous Triple B film in a hotel room after an Aphex Twin show.”

take it with however many grains of salt you wish, but this mix that is circulating around us, is not specifically too good - it’s suggested that you do stay away from it; of course, it’s your own trip, so, be my guest - but please be advised that there is a warning on this one, okay. 🥴

this 30-minute mix was a one-off i put together for the 15th episode of Terminal Radio, aptly titled “a monstrous psychedelic terminal exploding in your radio”, and was curated by longtime FSOL documentarian, friend and collaborator @imogenofa - this transmission was directly inspired by the @futuresoundoflondon’s “amorphous androgynous” output, right around the time i was lucky enough to contribute an official remix for the ‘cartel: remixes’ LP for record store day 2014 - i can’t overstate what a big deal this was for me - i managed to cop the physical at @guestroomrecordslouisville bright and early - still to this day i can’t help but blurt out (if the conversation warrants it) that i appeared on an album with noel gallagher, to often confused reactions (he played guitar and bass on the record) - although i was in even better company already, as there were mixes from @strictlykev and @youthmartin of killing joke featured on the same piece of plastic - but i digress... i mentioned in a post a couple weeks back, this mix didn’t quite fit the bill for the ‘psychic surgery’ anthology that i put up digitally in 2013, so i didn’t include it there - until now, this was only available to listen to on mixcloud, and the full 2-hour transmission seems to have disappeared into the ether, as things do - nevertheless, here was my contribution, and there’s a solid chance i may be doing more mixes in this style in the near future, as i’ve been collecting tracks for such an occasion for the last decade. ✌️

𝑾𝑬’𝑹𝑬 𝑫𝑹𝑬𝑨𝑴𝑭𝑨𝑺𝑻𝑰𝑵𝑮... 𝑺𝑯𝑨𝑹𝑰𝑵𝑮 𝑶𝑼𝑹 𝑴𝑬𝑴𝑶𝑹𝑰𝑬𝑺.

this short mix was put together end of march 2014, exclusive for amdiscs “Mix 4 AMDISCS” series, which ran up until 2017 - it was only available as a free download via their website - not a whole lot to this, other than i was asked to put together a set to coincide with the release of ‘Dream Sequins®’ (released a month prior), so i loosely tried to keep with the theme of the record - although, this ended up being more of an ambient / trip-hop affair than anything vaporwave or plunderphonic - i do remember @deandebenedictis (an ambient artist i’ve admired since my teen years, and 1/2 of the group Cathexis) being super stoked about their inclusion here at the time, which was nice - that track in particular “hymlock” should really be more notable as “proto-vaporwave” because it absolutely is, and is the reason i was occasionally mixing it into to similar tracks from sacred tapestry, or in this case infinite quazar.

i’ve got one more very unique guest mix planned for next friday, which could have been included in my ‘Psychic Surgery’ collection of terminal radio transmissions, but didn’t quite fit the bill, for reasons that will be fairly obvious - at that point, if mixcloud ever goes down, these mixes will have a new home here on the nmesh bandcamp page and won’t disappear into the ether.

happy bandcamp friday. 🛍️

this guest mix was a big deal for me - i’d been privy to james parker’s experimental / electronic show on PBS FM (melbourne, AU) for a little over a year at the time, after coming across what i consider one of the definitive early vaporwave-focused radio specials in the early days of internet club / ferraro / lopatin / mediafired and numerous vektroid aliases (for historical purposes, i even uploaded that particular episode to youtube 12 years ago: youtube.com/watch?v=BEaOfc56KJ8)

nevertheless, after a favorable review of ‘nu.wav hallucinations’ from tiny mix tapes, various tracks off that album started regularly popping up on the show, and it wasn’t long before i got in touch with james and organized 90-minute guest mix that aired on the 06/10/2014 show - i went all out on this one, and made sure i catered to the nature of the program - a blend of plunderphonics, techno, IDM, and the darker side of deep house music - and perhaps a little timely, a classic off boards of canada’s ‘old tunes vol. 2’ makes an appearance - until recently unearthing the files for this mix, i’d honestly forgotten how dense (and long) this mix was - it’s a solid transmission that i took very seriously at the time, and listening back on it for the first time in over a decade is a total trip.

𝐅𝐀𝐑 𝐒𝐈𝐃𝐄 𝐕𝐈𝐑𝐓𝐔𝐀𝐋: “Experimental music and the far out fringes of electronic and indie. Mostly new. Always cutting edge. Tune in for the world’s best future sounds, critical beats, drone, ambient, noise, improv, sound art, post-Cagean and avant- classical, hauntology, vaporwave, art-rock, alt-pop and the otherwise unclassifiable...”

Broadcast live on @pbsfm 106.7 Melbourne. Hosted by James Parker.

for those who care to witness my feature-length film debut as a talking head for a vaporwave documentary, look no further than the link below - “Nobody Here: The Story Of Vaporwave” premiered this past monday (on 4/20, naturally) and being the stand-up gents they are, the crew at @nobodyherefilm and @mypetflamingo have kindly made the SD version available to watch on youtube for free - these guys did a masterful job putting this all together - lots of friendly faces throughout - if i look a little red during my interview segments, you can blame the lighting setup, and not the 4-5 white claws i ingested to ease my nerves. 👍

“Five years in the making, ‘Nobody Here’ traces the story of Vaporwave and its evolution into the internet’s most aesthetic and celebrated micro-genre - from its origins in obscure online communities to its emergence in the mainstream consciousness. ‘Nobody Here’ is the definitive documentary on the genre, told through the voices of those who shaped it: the artists, the writers, the labels, and (most importantly) the fans. Featuring interviews with more than 50 key contributors from across the Vaporwave scene, the film explores the genre’s history and cultural impact - meme turned mainstream; washed down with an Arizona Iced Tea.”

as if the BOC album announcement today wasn’t enough already, i spotted the temu version of the Timelords’ car parked outside my office - so @boardsofcanada are officially back, and the KLF have ENTERED the building? - nice. 👍🏼 by @nmeshofficial
