Cosplay? Not yet, but something fun I decided to whip up while I've been a little strained elsewhere. I'll be back to the actual props and other kinds of builds soon enough.

Haven't really tried my hand at making something with Bionicle in quite a while, so this was a nice little challenge to make something as a continuation of Bionicle G2. Wanted to capture the spirit of what sets looked like at the time, and have a little fun with "just one more skeleton I promise." Also evil and intimidating bird, because everyone needs a Familiar.

So yeah, dubbed Skull Hoarder & The Familiar (but it's just a skelly boy and Makuta as a birdie)

#g2y3contest #bioniclemoc

Story excerpt:

Umarak and the Beasts, defeated.

The Mask of Ultimate Power, shattered.

And Makuta, still trapped within the Shadow Realm.

But all is not well on Okoto.

The influence of the Shadows taints all who avoid the light.

Even with the portal’s closure, Makuta’s power was not entirely sealed away. Taking the form of a large bird, he begins to seek those who would heed his call.

Malr, a lone berserker from the remnants of Kulta’s raiders, hears Makuta’s beckoning not long after fishing up a peculiar mask, and with it reshapes his own fate. It is a mask which could alter the flow of this final confrontation. A mask which could buy Makuta the time needed to reforge the Mask of Ultimate Power. And free him once and for all.

Makuta’s whispers enlist Malr into becoming the Hoarder, collecting masks of power to further his own abilities. They have but one shared goal: reconstruct the Mask of Ultimate Power to free Makuta and control Okoto. And the pair will do anything to reclaim the shards of that broken, ignoble mask. Even if it means disrupting time itself

Since G2 was making some funny Mask of Time ideas I thought, "what if a guy fished up the original for reasons" and the concept went from there.

Preening is still important even when you're evil by @noble_mask_cosplay

25 years!

It's remarkable how long it's been since Bionicle came around. Remarkable how I've been inspired by this silly toy for its entirety. Still collect and build in it, almost have my original mask collection complete, too! Not to mention a few rarities I cherish.

How it became the biggest push for me to go into cosplay once I built those first masks. Looking back at the original Onua I wore as a goofy Halloween costume in college, it's remarkable how far I've come. Pep masks in paper mache, then fiberglass and Bondo. Now painstaking measurements and hand scaling masks in parts to make them out of EVA foam? Even a cosplay under my belt with Matoro! And I've still got a lot further to go, so many more ideas I wish to see through in this.

The forge doesn't quit, and even though it's taken more time than I wanted, my inspiration and motivation haven't faded. I've been delayed, but my next project is still well under way. I hope to share more in the coming months beyond just a new mask in progress (technically two).

Turns out there's more than one way to collect Bionicle masks.

Already shared bits and pieces of it all, but I'll be at Connecticon all this weekend! Not only in cosplay all weekend, but I'll be hosting my very first panel tonight!

We've got Toon Summoned Skull FINALLY being worn for a con after about 6 years of just sitting in storage (and needing some desperate repairs). I'll be with my wonderful partner as she does a genderswapped Pegasus (couples cosplay goals lmao)

Friday night and for part of Saturday I'll aim to be doing a VERY casual Ahkmou, the Happy Kanohi Mask Salesman. I'll have a few of my old masks on me while I test out the new head and some feet.

Regigigas will be making an appearance Saturday afternoon, both in Cosplay Chess and at the Pokemon meetup that'll be happening that evening!

And then finally, Red will close it out because why not?

Hope to see some familiar faces! by @noble_mask_cosplay

Going All City with these!

I couldn't wait to share. Y'all tired of seeing me take Red out for a ride? Me neither.

First shoot for this cosplay went so well!! Even more, I'm stoked I was able to take my longboard along and get some action shots while I tore up the parking lot - slowly, mind you. Having big boot covers made it a little trickier to get my footing right!

Winter really slows things down when it comes to cosplay
Regigigas knows a thing or two about that, especially after being stuck in a snowy temple for an eon or two

So very excited to get photos in of Regigigas - all thanks to @mrdangphotos! Really captured the cosplay wonderfully on its first outing at PAX West!

This was a cosplay I'd idealized for at least the past two years. Always had a fondness for the Regi, and seeing how fanart likes to play them up, especially Regigigas? It planted some ideas I needed to see through. Plenty to still fix and upgrade for next time (flashing lights on his eyes, maybe custom gloves, patching up the moss boots, adding Regicries?) but I'm still so proud of how this turned out.

Thanks to everyone who loved seeing the cosplay in action, everyone at the Pokemon meetup, and of course, to everyone who wished me luck in finding Regidrago and Regieleki. I'm sure they'll turn up somewhere...

"You're a bit full of yourself, aren't you? You think you can just tell us what to do?"

Had the honor to take part in a MHA Villains collab to celebrate the end of the series! Absolutely great time getting these photos done and it's been so exciting to not just break out Chronostasis again, but seeing what everyone else brought to this! Enjoy and please do check out the talented cosplayers that took part! Big thanks to @fayeaeart for running this and putting all the hard work in editing!

I didn't really get a proper photo during con, but Footsoldier D performed magnificently during Sakuracon. Doing two games of cosplay chess with him was a bit much, but I learned a lot from last year. Aimed high for the physical comedy and I think it worked!

Day two of Sakuracon went fantastically. Ran as stage ninja for the main game of chess and had a few wipeouts while I learned the ropes for behind the scenes.
Red got his debut during the day and held up *beautifully*. I do know a few places to improve him for PAX, but this has been the most comfortable cosplay I've done.

Things are chugging along and I think it's pretty safe to say this will be what I'll be bringing to Sakura-Con this coming weekend. Can't wait to see everyone out there!

End of day and Matoro managed to survive a full day (with the help of duct tape). I cannot wait to fix him up and make even further improvements.

Keep your eyes out for scenes from cosplay chess!
And if anyone got photos of me, please do send them along!

Done with time to spare! A few more fixes for Matoro to finish up and I'll be set.
See you all at Sakuracon !
