its eating disorder awareness month and i havent overshared on instagram in a while so everybody buckle up! struggling with your weight and relationship with food is SO difficult and feels so isolating. how is it that we can know for a fact other people are dealing with the same things we are & still feel so alone? growing up, i was a serious athlete. i ate A TON and never gained weight. people would comment on my body constantly. i would get made fun of for being tall (taller than all the boys), “flat” or too skinny— i heard so many comments like “you must eat like a bird” or “you need a burger to get some fat on those bones!” i distinctly remember the moment i was walking through the hallway in highschool, in what must have been a particularly short crowd, and feeling SO BIG. the realization hit me that i could never blend into a crowd of my peers. i would always stick out— literally. now that my body has become more “womanly,” ive swung to the other side of the spectrum. i knew how to deal with being more vertical than the average girl but now i feel bigger horizontally as well, and thats something i’ve really been struggling with. trying on clothes is a NIGHTMARE and literally almost brings me to tears every time. it’s always been hard for me to find pants that are long enough, but now i’m lucky to find a store in the mall that carries anything bigger than an “L” (each brand has their own L so what does that even mean), or MAYBE an XL. a lot of the way i’m feeling is not my fault. its the result of years of brainwashing and propaganda telling me that as a woman i should be small—especially smaller than my male counterparts—petite, not take up too much space. so my own little act of rebellion this month is to try to appreciate my body for what it does. it lets me bike to class, walk dogs, play sports, eat yummy foods, and so much more. you don’t have to be obsessed with the way you look in the mirror. it’s enough to start with small appreciation. & remember, the patriarchy literally counts on you hating yourself as a woman. its how they keep us under their thumb and how the beauty/wellness industry drives profits. so i invite you to rebel. by @norarakoci

22 has been so special and one of the craziest years of my life. some amazing highs and some really difficult lows. i finally graduated community college with my associates degree and got in to my dream school. i worked harder than i ever have in my life. i accomplished my dream of moving to LA. i had to learn how to go from being with my family basically 24/7 to being in a brand new place a thousand miles away with brand new people. i got a bike (betty) and immediately crashed. ow. i accidentally fostered a dog. (i miss u artemis) i became a published journalist and am learning SO much every day. i continue to struggle with my mental health, every day is a battle. but every day i have more and more joy and blessings in my life! my beloved dog molly passed away. i miss her so much. i took the coolest class where we got to see early screenings of new movies and then have a q&a with someone who worked in the film, including GUILLERMO DEL TORO. thank you 22 for being the most important year of my life! on to 23 :’) #jordanyear by @norarakoci
