i love you, but i’m turning to my verses
and my heart is closing like a fist.”

kicking off escapril (petition to call it the ‘social season’) with a piece not at all related to the prompts :))) definitely winning @ life

also!! shoutout to my favourite song off of lana del rey’s new album - Paris, Texas (if u know u know) by @not.opaque

this may be the most sinister piece i’ve written yet eeeek. i wrote this basis the fact that throughout popular culture, there’s been this steady injection of what “ideal love” presents itself as, and we’re conditioned to accept these supposedly romantic stereotypes, which in reality, are toxic and damaging.

so on the surface this is supposed to look like a cliche love poem. but it’s the exact opposite.

hi guys, quick trigger warning: pandemic. i’ve tried to describe my personal experience during covid (wave 2 to be specific, as that was the most devastating one for us in India). everything written in this piece is true. the world has been through an indescribable experience characterised by extreme tragedy and personal loss. so i understand if you do not wish to relive the experience by reading about it.

i’d written most of this piece last year itself, but chose to complete it today, and i was struck by how the running theme spells tragedy, but also hope. the world turned kinder and more generous than i’d ever seen before. so when i opened instagram to post this piece, i saw today’s escapril posts, and the prompt for the day is “we’re not alone”. and that is exactly what this piece is echoing. an unspoken assurance. a hand gently squeezing another. so here goes.

Escapril Day 9: We’re not alone.
