A sweet moment from September that I wanna remember 💫
.
Had a very lovely conversation with @adriamoses at one of my favorite places in Detroit — the Main Library.
.
Felt so special to moderate, to co-create this community space in celebration of the launch of her first book — Towards What Hurt 📖💕
.
Excited to share with you. To read my reflections and a little backstory of how this opportunity came to be, join me on Substack 💌

The midterms are over, thank goodness, cuz all the political texts, calls, and ads were getting on my last nerve 😤.
.
Is it the election…or is it perimenopause? (Its prolly both 🙃)
.
Come make art and talk about it. Join me and @womxnhouse_detroit this Sunday, November 8th, 1-4pm for a collage workshop that explores women’s health.
.
We’ll connect, eat snacks, and make art while we’re at it. Tickets are sliding scale and no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

A recent glaze test ✨

Chun red at cone 10, on recycled clay…
.
Post- kiln: Became sage green 🌿 with flecks of burgundy🍷, but I’m not mad about it. What do you think of this color?
.
Working through my backlog of bisque ware (many thanks to @grainandpestle for the materials) 🙏🏾💫
.
And getting back in the studio swing for the holiday season. So more soon 💕

Sometimes, you need someone to hold a lil creative space for you.
.
A space to process and play.
.
A space to express and explore.
.
A space to relax, release, (re)connect with community.
.
And that, my friend, is what Creative Container is all about. Join me for the next session on:

🗓️ Sunday, November 8th, from 1-4
.
I’m teaming up with @womxnhouse_detroit as a follow up to the screening of Before the Pause— a very important documentary (available on PBS).
.
Join us for a cozy afternoon where we’ll be making art while talking about perimenopause, menopause, women’s health.
.
Sliding scale tickets. Space is limited. All are welcome.

A gathering for Detroit. The land, the people, and all those who tended this ground before I arrived. I am because you are and were.

Next Wednesday, September 23rd, we’ll gather at the @detroitpubliclibrary for more than a reading. A ceremony.

In conversation with Michaela Ayers (and you), we’ll explore the themes of my debut poetry collection, Towards What Hurt. A somatic, sonic reading follows.

This will be extra special.

Free and open to all. Books will be available for purchase & signing. RSVP via the link in my bio. by @nourish_____

An exercise in being seen 👁️.
.
Excited to share my conversation with @adriamoses, a writer, educator, somatic practitioner, and founder of the @schoolofradicalhealing.
.
On @blackherstories, across two acts, we talk about our practices, her creative lineage, Detroit, healing, and her debut poetry collection—Towards What Hurt 📖.
.
Pull at a seat at my dining room table and listen as we laugh, make art, and share stories. So fun + such a joy. Tap the link in bio to tune in now 💕 by @nourish_____

Bye bye, summer. Love you/miss you. by @nourish_____

A recent joy: a roadtrip to Chicago 🚙💕
.
Had a lovely time bopping around the city. Connected with friends. Saw some jazz. The Obama Center. And ate a catfish po’boy I’m still thinking about…😋
.
The highlight? My studio visit with collage artist, @cydneyml at the @hydeparkartcenter 🎨✨
.
I’m drawn to the way Cydney reimagines materials (things we often discard/waste) and resurrects them into dynamic , 3D images that sit somewhere between Afrofuturism and Afrosurrealism.
.
We talk about all this and more in the latest episode. Tap the link in my bio to listen now. Read along on Substack 💌 by @nourish_____

A lil studio update for anyone who’s curious…✨
.
This is a lamp, designed to hang on the wall. There are a few more steps before we get there…
.
I’ve heard folks say it reminds them of a basket, but I was/have been thinking a lot about turtles, tortoises, patience, persistence, and moving reeeeeeeeealllll slow. So here we go.
.
We made it out of the bisque with no cracks 😮‍💨! Now, on to the glaze tests…

This one goes out to little me 🍭✨
.
We have come a long looooong way. Healed a lot. Learned a lot. And love so many things about this lifetime 🖤.
.
Was fun to put this together. My twist on a story quilt, inspired by the one and only @faithringgold 👩🏾‍🎨✨
