Today I had the opportunity to attend a thoughtful book review session organized by Gilgit Study Circle in Gilgit, featuring Naveed Iftikhar and his book Hold On, moderated by Zameer Abbas.
It was refreshing to be among people who value reading, exchange ideas, and engage in meaningful conversations. What made the experience even more special was taking home a personally signed copy of Hold On by the author himself.
Looking forward to reading it and discovering the thoughts and stories held within its pages. Grateful for such moments and for the people who keep the culture of reading and dialogue alive in Gilgit. 🤍

Hold on Launch in Gilgit City...Sunday, 18 Oct by @novelholdon

I recently finished reading ‘Hold On’ by Naveed Iftikhar, and I think this is one of those books that makes you think about people more than you think about the story itself.

While reading it, I kept coming back to one thought: how much do we really know about a person? We see people through their behaviour, their choices and the way they treat us, but we don’t always know what is happening inside them or what experiences have shaped them. That is probably the most interesting about ‘Hold On’. The characters are not simply good or bad. They are human. They change, they make mistakes, they react differently to situations, and sometimes they surprise you. And isn’t that how real people are too?

I particularly noticed this change in Hira. Her journey, especially after coming to Islamabad, shows how much our surroundings can influence us. A new city can introduce you to new people, new experiences and a completely different way of looking at life. And slowly, without even realising it, you start changing too.

And I really liked how Hold On explores this through different cities. Peshawar, Lahore, Islamabad and even New York are described with such different moods and personalities. They don’t just feel like locations where the story happens. They almost become part of the characters’ experiences. I believe cities can change us. You can live in one place for years and become one version of yourself, and then move somewhere completely different and suddenly discover another side of your personality. Sometimes a new environment gives you the freedom to become someone you couldn’t be before.

It also makes you think about how we sometimes hold on to people, memories, relationships and even versions of ourselves simply because they are familiar. But growth often requires us to accept that some things will change. Holding on doesn’t necessarily mean holding on to everything.

Sometimes you hold on to hope.
Sometimes you hold on to yourself.
Sometimes you hold on while you are going through a difficult phase, trusting that things will eventually make sense.

And sometimes, you have to let something go in order to grow!!

Some books are read. Some are felt. And some find you exactly when you need them. 📖✨
Hold On was one of those books for me.

Grateful to @hassan_techtales (Hassan bhai) for putting this story in my hands at a time when its title felt like a question I was living through.

@nav.ift thank you for writing a story that stayed with me. 🤍
