The scaling up of health innovations and acceleration of the implementation of Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) interventions in the African Region are needed now more than ever to bridge persistent health inequities, save lives, strengthen health systems, and ensure that proven, life-saving solutions reach every woman, newborn, child and adolescent. The time to move from innovation to impact is now because every delay costs lives, and every action brings us closer to a healthier Africa by @ntulikapologwe

The WHO African Region averages just 1.55 doctors, nurses and midwives per 1,000 people, against the 4.45 needed for Universal Health Coverage. Joint External Evaluations show the gap reaches into health security too: several countries in our region score only 1–2 out of 5 on workforce strategy, training and surge capacity. This week in Lusaka (2–6 November 2026), ECSA-HC is hosting a Regional Consultative Meeting to develop and validate a Regional Multisectoral Workforce Planning Toolkit under the World Bank–funded Health Emergency Preparedness, Response and Resilience Program (HEPRRP). Delegations from Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda and Ethiopia are reviewing draft Toolkit. The contents range from workforce mapping, forecasting and gap analysis to competency-based training, emergency surge planning, workforce data and monitoring. Health digital transformation in resource-limited settings is not simply about adopting technology; it is about harnessing innovation, building sustainable solutions, and empowering health systems to deliver equitable, accessible, and quality healthcare for all. The true measure of success lies not in the innovation itself, but in our ability to scale it up, adapt it to local realities, and ensure that no community is left behind by @ntulikapologwe

It was a pleasure to present ECSA-HC’s priorities and the broader Global South health agenda at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada.

ECSA-HC remains firmly committed to advancing health diplomacy, strengthening health security, building research capacity, promoting interdisciplinary approaches to addressing health and nutrition challenges, and accelerating the scale-up of impactful health innovations across the region and beyond.

Through strategic partnerships and collective action, we remain committed to shaping a more resilient, equitable and sustainable health future for the Global South. by @ntulikapologwe

A meaningful moment of connection and shared commitment to advancing Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH). It was a pleasure connecting with Dr. Ntuli during the Youth-Led Interministerial Dialogue, reaffirming the importance of youth engagement, leadership and collaboration in shaping healthier futures for mothers, newborns and children.

Because investing in youth today means securing a healthier generation tomorrow.

It was an honour to reconnec with @ntulikapologwe during the Tanzania Youth-Led Inter-Ministerial Dialogue. Beyond his leadership, what truly stood out to me was the way he engages with young people, listens to their voices, and creates space for meaningful conversations.

His approach is a reminder that leadership is not just about leading from the front, but also about listening, making room for others, and recognising the power of young people in shaping decisions that affect their future.

May we continue to see more leadership that listens, values, and trusts young people.
