I’m not saying everyone should listen to Locust by Machine Head all the time, maybe save it for double 30kg hang clean and squats.

Lots snatches with the 18kg
Half snatch to jerk with the 20kg

Then the 30kgs…

Lots of jerks today, (118). Somewhere along the way my 2nd dip started to fade. Between trying to keep the legs straight and making sure elbows landed in the best area… that dip got ignored. This is why we record everything! Always something to improve.

Squats: 5x5’s (barely)

Renegade rows, Long cycle and halfsnatch. So many dead bugs…

At least 2ft-lbs of work done today. Less than 30,000.

Still can’t believe what people can do with the orange and red bells. The hand conditioning alone… mine wanted no part of it today. Truth be told I had the mental brakes on for most of the sets, but glad to look back on it as it all got done.

As always, I am thankful for the attention to detail Levi puts into his programming. I wouldn’t be doing the things I’m able to do without it. Onward and upward!

Pull-ups! Added another rep to the strict rep count. Kept to pace on the jerk sets, 84 total. Then did an AMRAP with halfsnatch on the 14s, last 5 reps shown.

Today I chose… the harder path. It wasn’t as bad as my mind was making it out to be. Short story lesson from today’s workout: choose the hard path because it’s not as bad as you think.

Might seem like a no brainer in that if I have @levishtktraining as my coach, it’s always the opposite of easy, which might generally be true, but today there were options. Could have snatched the 16 instead of the 18 but didn’t. Could have stuck with a lower AMRAP rpm for jerks but instead rode the redline. And for the clip shown in this reel, opted for the 26s instead of the 24s.

This is not to brag, hope it’s not coming across that way. My usual M.O. is to choose the path of least resistance and maximize my rest. Today it felt like it was time to lean in on the more difficult path. And it made me wonder, how much farther along would I have been if I had just done this from the start?

We don’t always have a choice with what difficulties we have in front of us. Sometimes they seem to take everything we have to get through. But if you have a lull between the rock and a hard place, don’t choose or stay in comfort. Challenge yourself and lean into it. See what happens. It might be more doable than you are making it out to be.

I think I need a safety sign that indicates how many days since a magnet has flown off a kettlebell. But I don’t want to jinx it. The last magnet incident was when I was trying to pull one out and I smashed my finger full force on the inside of the bell with the magnet edge. That caused me to lose a nail. And that was well over a year ago.

Really good workout today, integrated the knowledge with body memory regarding elbow placement on the hips for jerks. My biceps were locked up prior and were supporting the weight. That was causing a serious pump. Once I could rely on the elbows, the biceps could take a short breather.

Jerks went better today, but still had to drop to 18s on the last set. I’m starting to think it’s circulation, or not enough bicep curls when I was in high school. Or… hear me out… maybe my technique could use some improvement.

Halfsnatch and bumps with the 14s and more pull-up practice!

Almost bagged this one. So sore and I can’t tell exactly from what. Glad I didn’t bail. Liked the pallet platform. It worked well! All the gaps were boarded up. So no cattle guard issue.

This one’s a special one. This week I wrapped up my time with @crossfitampersand as a coach and member. Was not easy to say goodbye to this awesome group of people. Work commitments and other aspects of life are temporarily taking precedence.

It’s not an exaggeration when I say Jeff and Harmony have created a place where people can reinvent and/or recover themselves and that’s exactly what happened to me. Lost 30lbs, got my focus back and started coaching again. Wouldn’t be chasing kettlebell sport if it weren’t for their support and encouragement.

If you’re in the Carson Valley Nevada area, it’s hard to go wrong with @crossfitampersand

Have some kettlebell sport ASMR. Explosive lifts, heavy swings, and tempo deadlifts.

One more workout and I’ll have wrapped up another 10 week session of a sports specific training focus on hip, single leg strength, balance and keeping my toes in the kettlebell sport water.

This block was different from previous ones. It was designed by Levi to support equine endeavors. Seat time, leg work, balance, and doing work for extended periods. Doesn’t replace riding, but it’s a good buffer, especially for this old man.

This November my daughter and I will be participating in a cattle drive run by extended family members. Growing up in Bridgeport, CA I always watched the drive go thru town with a mix of awe and puzzlement. Why not just take a cattle truck? And how do they do that?! Took a few years but I see it differently now.

As I get older I am realizing these opportunities to spend with my kids aren’t as many as I would like, and the health curve that will allow me to do it is not in my favor. Best to go for it while I can.

So train like your life depends on it, find a good coach, invest in yourself and do the work.

Well would you look at that. Double 24s halfsnatch. Holeee crap… thankyou @levishtktraining

2008 I overheard a conversation from a strong RKC candidate (a very capable athlete) and an instructor about how impossible double snatching two 24kg kettlebells was and was it worth the effort to chase it. Instructor (I don’t remember who) said no, not worth it. And I believed them. For the next 18 years…

Until today.

This effort was not only done once, it was done over a course of three more sets and it was done after heavy tempo deadlifts…
