VEHICLE INTERDICTION | WINDSHIELD to WINDSHIELD PINS

The windshield is one of the most vulnerable areas of a patrol vehicle, especially when dealing with potentially violent suspects on a vehicle PIN.

Windshield to windshield vehicle pins can create significant exposure for officers. By incorporating a transparent protective shield, we’re adding another layer of protection while maintaining visibility of the threat area.

Does it eliminate the risk? Absolutely not.

But it provides another option for reducing exposure when circumstances require a front-end pin.

The objective drives the tactics. Risk management drives the decisions. My recommendation is to back into the front of the suspect vehicle but environmental factors can be an issue and drive decision making.

Tight groups look good on paper. But when you watch OIS footage, it’s rarely slow, deliberate fire. It’s fast and under stress.

Living life through the view port means training for speed AND accuracy. Push the pace until the wheels come off, then reel it back in. Training to failure is how you find your edge, and how you move it.

Interior Operations | Ballistic Shields

The old way of using ballistic shields is evolving.

Room entries can be crisp, fast, and smooth—but speed alone doesn’t eliminate the threat posed by unknown areas.

Digging rooms with a shield, following a deliberate threshold assessment, allows officers to gather more information before committing to an entry.

For patrol officers and tactical teams alike, it’s another layer of safety when operating in high-risk environments.

CI Management & Field Operations | October 14–16, 2026 | Olympia, WA

Three days of intensive, scenario-based training focused on taking classroom knowledge into real-world operations.

Students worked through:

* Mobile and foot surveillance
* Confidential Informant (CI) management and field operations
* Controlled buys, including buy-side and buy-bust operations
* A live interview and Q&A with an experienced CI
* Scenario-based pressure testing designed to challenge decision-making, communication, adaptability, and officer safety under stress

The goal wasn’t simply to teach techniques. It was to test them.

Throughout the course, students were placed in realistic scenarios that required them to think critically, adapt to changing circumstances, and make sound operational decisions while maintaining officer safety.

A huge thank you to the officers who attended, brought their experience to the table, and committed themselves to becoming better investigators.

The threshold is where information becomes an advantage.

Threshold assessments and pieing allow officers to gather critical information about a room before committing to entry.

The objective isn’t simply to get through the door. It’s to make informed decisions, reduce unnecessary exposure, and improve officer safety.

PERFORMANCE IS BUILT.

Great week LVMPD ⚔️ by @nw_tacticalmethods

THE CAR DOESN’T STOP BEING A PROBLEM JUST BECAUSE THEY GOT OUT.

After calling occupants out of a vehicle—or dealing with a barricaded subject—the next problem is often how we safely close distance and deal with what remains inside.

This is where a ballistic shield can become another option. by @nw_tacticalmethods
