NYSNA congratulates our endorsed election winners! Healthcare was on the ballot this year, and we were fortunate to elect many healthcare and worker champions up and down the ballot who will fight to expand and fund access to affordable, quality care for all New Yorkers.

Team NYSNA was proud to join our union siblings this year to get out the labor vote. So many healthcare and worker candidates were victorious in priority races this year! Union-backed candidates also won around the country, including in key states like Michigan, Maine, North Carolina and Texas. Now the hard work of advancing economic, social and racial justice everywhere begins!

Stay tuned for more updates as election results continue to come in. We know how important it will be to count every ballot to ensure our voice is heard. Congratulations to:

Polls are open. New York, get out and vote! by @nynurses

Today was a victory for safe staffing and our union rights, as supporters cheered on our member who walked back to work at H+H/Kings County. NP Sarah Dowd was retaliated against and suspended for organizing to enforce safe staffing in her facility. After nurses and allies spoke out in solidarity, she was reinstated with full back pay! When we fight, we win! by @nynurses

This week we thank the urology nurses and associates who help us heal and stay healthy. We are grateful for your work and care! by @nynurses

It's Medical-Surgical Nurses Week! Thank you for all you do to help us recover from illnesses and procedures, this week and every other week! by @nynurses

Tomorrow, Nov. 1, is the final day for early voting in New York! Make sure you use your right to vote by getting to the polls early today or tomorrow, or on Election Day, Nov. 3. by @nynurses

🎃 Happy Halloween! Don't be spooked by anti-union tactics! 🎃 by @nynurses

TODAY: NYSNA nurses at Northwell Health/Putnam Hospital delivered an info-picket notice to management, announcing their intention to picket on Nov. 12 unless they can reach a fair contract agreement! Putnam nurses have been bargaining a new union contract for nearly a year, but Northwell continues to push back on nurses' attempts to include safe staffing language in their contract. After a successful virtual town-hall meeting last week, nurses are turning up the heat to get Northwell to settle a contract that ensures safe, quality care for their community. Keep up the great work, Putnam nurses! by @nynurses

The Wall Street Journal wrote about an issue NYSNA nurses have been talking about for years: nurse burnout and moral injury. While demand for nurses has never been higher, many are leaving the profession due to workplace violence, short staffing and high workloads. NYSNA is fighting these problems with safe staffing committees, legislative advocacy, and protections won in contract bargaining.

Last week, nurses at @nychealthsystem @kingscountyhosp held an emergency rally to push back on the hospital's decision to retaliate against a nurse practitioner and NYSNA vice president of the local bargaining unit. Hospital administration suspended our member without pay after she advocated for patient safety and discussed staffing concerns with nurses. Thanks to our colleagues at Kings County, public and private-sector NYSNA nurses, community and labor allies, and elected officials who showed up to rally for our rights and against H+H's union-busting! On this day in 2012, Hurricane Sandy hit the East Coast, forcing the evacuation of multiple hospitals, displacing entire communities, and changing people's lives forever. Nurses were heroic in the face of the devastation, helping to bring more than 1,200 patients to safety and volunteering in the recovery efforts.

Since then, hospitals have worked to become more climate-resilient and disaster-ready. Is your facility prepared this hurricane season and beyond? Check out the link in bio for NYSNA's Weather Emergency Preparedness Checklist. This list of questions, developed by NYSNA's Emergency Preparedness Committee, is a helpful tool to use when assessing facility preparedness with management. by @nynurses
