44.🎈

Getting older is forgetting to pack a single pair of shoes for vacation. 🤷‍♂️

Shoutout to Dick’s Sporting Goods and a pissed off Instacart driver for providing me with my first pair of crispy white’s in years.👟🏝️

A perfect long weekend with the love of my life. Orange and blue skies overhead. A Knicks championship being the greatest birthday present I could’ve asked for. 🧡💙🏆

After a year of big highs, big lows, and plenty of uncertainty, I’m heading into this one with hope, gratitude, more love, and more laughs. 🙏

Because you can never have enough laughs. 😎 by @odd_obese

I am a New York Knick.

I got this DNA from my father and friends. Other fanbases understand hardship, sure, but for us? It just means more.

The Knicks lost Game 7 in ’94 on my 12th birthday as I cried in my grandmother’s living room. In ’99, I watched us come up just short with all my boys as an 8th seed who was never supposed to be there.

I spent my childhood hating MJ for sending us home. I endured the mediocrity. Buying a Marbury jersey out of a display window with an entire paycheck the day after the trade. The hope of Melo. The disaster years of Isiah and Phil. LeBron passing us by.

But through the heartbreak, we stayed.

Two years ago, fresh off being diagnosed with terminal cancer, I sent my dad a text and asked him for a favor. I thought of something that had never happened in my lifetime to look for as a sign that he was still with me once he was gone.

As you can see, he delivered.

My dad passed 5 days before the playoffs started. I felt completely empty.

But then the Knicks started winning.

My aunt told me that growing up, she, my uncle, and my dad played basketball in the driveway. Dad always tried to be his favorite, Walt Frazier, but they made him play Willis Reed because he was too big to be Clyde. The last text I sent my father was a picture of a Clyde autographed card I got. Happy he got to see that.

When his ashes arrived, the box wasn’t standard USPS red, white, and blue; it was white, orange, and blue. Legit Knicks colors.

This was written in the stars.

I watched us win it all next to my brother @ali.odd and his kids. We met in 7th grade and haven’t stopped talking about this exact day since. My dad’s nickname for Ali until the day he died was literally “Starks.”

Getting to experience this with him and his kids, the next generation of Knicks fans, I was exactly where I needed to be.

Then, getting to rewatch the moments this morning on FaceTime with my nephew Lucas, who already lives and breathes for this team…

This team is yours now, boys. Enjoy the ride.

Thank you, New York Knicks, and long live King Brunson!

Through all the grief, there has been you.

Cue the Billy Joel, old man.

I love you, Pop.

We finally did it. 🧡💙🏆 by @odd_obese

No one can prepare you for the loss of a parent. No matter how long their life is, how close or distant you are, whether you see it coming or not, there’s a weight that hits when their energy leaves the physical world. You can feel it, like a part of you is suddenly missing.

My father passed away on Monday, April 13th at just 69 years old.

It feels far too early. And even knowing that, I don’t think I would have been ready at any age.

I spent the last few days writing this on and off, trying to capture his life and all the things he loved and did with his time here. At some point I realized I didn’t have enough space to fit it all in, which tells me everything I need to know. He lived a full life.

If you knew him, and know me, there’s no question I am my father’s son. He passed so much of himself down to me, and I will always wear that with pride. His love for music, sports, movies, the ocean, weather, the stars, science fiction, and a good joke in any situation will continue through me.

He took me to my first of many Bucs and Yankees games. He told me I had to see Back to the Future when I was a kid, and took me to the theater the day the second and third ones came out. We watched NFL Primetime every Sunday night during football season to relive the day, and as I got older, we called each other every NFL Sunday because there was never enough football. He introduced me to Pink Floyd, The Allman Brothers, Pearl Jam, The Doors, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Bruce Springsteen, and everything that was and still is good about music. He saw things before they were coming. I get that from him.

He loved a good underdog story. It’s hard not to think about how that came full circle, because in a lot of ways he became one, and he came out on the other side a winner.

He also loved a good nap on a Masters Sunday. And in a way that feels strangely fitting, he got one last one in the day before he passed.

I can’t put into words how much I will miss him.

I love you always, Pop. Rest easy, old man.
