Peace. Had a great time at the @planetsdigable concert. They put on a great show. The band was sharp as a razor and the Grammy Award winning trio definitely held court in Omaha, Nebraska last night.

I pulled up on @officialdoodlebug earlier in the day to drop off a @feedthepoet.apparel hoodie he ordered, plus some extra goodies. We chopped it up in the lobby for a bit. This was our first time meeting face to face so it was an honor under the circumstance. He asked if I was going to the show later and I said no, I didn’t grab tickets. He said, “Let me put you on the list.”

Fast forward to during the show, @officialdoodlebug shouts me out by name in the middle of their set. It was a surreal moment to have a one of my favorite artists I grew up listening to, big me up like that in my hometown. It felt like I was in a movie. I’m grateful for the experience and humbled by his gesture. @thepoetsolacetaylor

Also, congratulations to Betty Franko for opening up the show! No moment or stage is too big for natural stars. @connyfranko @betty.bl0op

Get @reshare_app • @bluenotelondon JUST ANNOUNCED: Digable Planets

Grammy Award-winning hip-hop pioneers Digable Planets join us for four special shows this December.

Formed by Ishmael “Butterfly” Butler, Craig “Doodlebug” Irving and Mary Ann “Ladybug Mecca” Vieira, the iconic trio broke through with 1993’s Reachin’ (A New Refutation of Time and Space) and its instantly recognisable hit “Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)”.

Blending jazz-infused grooves with sharp lyricism and an unmistakably laid-back flow, Digable Planets have left an indelible mark on hip-hop and now bring their celebrated live show to Blue Note London for four very special performances.

Had the honor of meeting the founders of Timeless records Wim and Ria Wigt who originally released the Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers album “Reflections in Blue” …we sampled a song called “stretchin” from that album which became our song “Rebirth of Slick(cool like dat)”

Wikipedia:

In 1975 Wim and Ria Wigt founded the record label Timeless Records with ‘Eastern Rebellion’ by Cedar Walton as its first release. The album would be an instant success, with many international jazz critics claiming that it was one of the best bebop albums of the seventies. The album ‘Machito and his Salsa Big Band 1982’ by Machito would go and win the a Grammy Award in the category ‘Best Latin Recording’ in 1983. The current Timeless catalogue holds around 850 albums, incl recordings of jazz giants such as Chet Baker, Dizzy Gillespie, Bill Evans, Archie Shepp, Art Blakey, McCoy Tyner, Tommy Flanagan, Lionel Hampton, Pharoah Sanders, Jaco Pastorius and Chris Barber. In cooperation with the latter trombone legend, Wim started the series the Chris Barber Collection (CBC or Timeless Historical) in 1991. This would include remastered reissues of recordings by Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Bing Crosby, Coleman Hawkins, Ethel Waters, Hoagy Carmichael, Sidney Bechet, the Dorsey Brothers and many others. by @nyotaparker
