An angel in disguise, and blessing from above🥹🤍

To Mom —

I cannot begin to fathom what this life would be like without you. I am so blessed to be able to witness at firsthand, what the embodiment of love, and selflessness looks like. Thank you for all that you do and all that you are. You are my inspiration, a ray of sunshine, and source of empowerment. You have never ceased to believe in me, and have always spoken life into me and all those you come across.

I thank God for you and pray that you will experience all that you deserve and more in this lifetime.

I love you so much❤️ by @officialmissju

GOD SAVE US ALL.

#newmusic #christianrapper by @officialmissju

This is the face of a little nigerian girl, born and raised in Durham, NC.

The same city that got me the most strange looks whenever I told people where I was from. “OH, you a Durhamite?!”... they’d laugh, as if being from Durham was something to be ashamed of.

But it was in this very city that I discovered my love for music at just 7 years old. I remember watching MTV when Alicia Keys’ “No One” came on. I was mesmerized. In that moment, I knew I wanted to create, too. I began writing my own melodies, later drawing inspiration from 90’s rap legends like Ms. Lauryn Hill, the Fugees, Mos Def, and countless others who shaped the sound I carry today.

Over time, though, that passion became buried beneath feelings of doubt and discouragement. Songs I written over the years went unheard/unreleased. Visions drowned beneath the weight of being told I wouldn’t make it unless I looked, sounded, or rapped a certain way. Or perhaps it was simply the audacity of a young black girl from the 919 daring to believe she could.

But I’ve learned that music was never just about creating the
“next best song.” It’s far bigger than me. It’s an escape, a reflection of my identity, a way to give meaning to my experiences, and most importantly, an opportunity to breathe hope into others.

My vision extends far beyond being known. I want my words to remind people that it’s never too late to become who God created you to be. God designed you intentionally. Where you come from, how you look, how you sound, and what you’ve endured are not obstacles to your worthiness. They’re pieces of a story only YOU can tell. And in His hands, the very things that once made you feel different can become the foundation of a legacy the world NEEDS.

So do it scared. Do it when they say you shouldn’t. And yes, do it from Durham.
