The Night Driver had its world premiere at Screamfest @screamfestla tonight, and congratulations are in order. Josh Lucas, Alyssa Milano, and David Arquette showed up and the black carpet asked for a safe word. Director Jeremy Weiss, welcome to the big screen. Exceptional eye, killer debut. Executive producer Sean S. Cunningham, @seancunninghamfilms producers Andre Relis, Jib Polhemus, and Jessica Russo, and composer Yagmur Kaplan, you got this one to the carpet. Well done, all of you! Josh Lucas @joshlucas showed up sharp, easy, and very much giving “I know exactly what movie we are here for.” Kind, cool, zero rush. Alyssa Milano @milano_alyssa was the whole outfit. Brown turtleneck, the necklaces, that plaid skirt, and the feather situation trailing like it had its own premiere. Stunning all the way down to the shoes. Her embellished heels understood the assignment. David Arquette @davidarquette was pure charm in the gray suit, smiling like a man who has survived more Ghostfaces than the rest of us have group chats. SILLY SIDE NOTE: at Silver Scream Con, our buddy Spencer Charnas @spencerink of Ice Nine Kills @iceninekills dressed as Ghostface and "killed" David Arquette. It was a silly staged skit. Warren had a follow-up question. When he saw David at Screamfest he asked, “David, what are you doing here? I thought Spencer killed you.” David smiled. That was his whole statement. What a BOZO! Someone passing, is never a good feeling. These kinds of posts don’t always make us feel better & with so many people passing lately, ORM has been more selective about sharing them. Still, we couldn’t hold back on RJ Mitte. Because of our own personal feelings, it was difficult & took us quite a bit of time to write what we wanted to share. This is a very worthwhile read, so please stay to the end. RJ was someone I really admired. Even though I never met him, his advocacy meant a lot to me. He lived with cerebral palsy & brought that experience to his role on Breaking Bad, but what stood out more was how he used his platform afterward. In media he pushed for better representation & employment for disabled performers - for actors with disabilities to be considered for all roles, not just disability-specific or stereotypical portrayals. His work continues through SAG-AFTRA’s Performers with Disabilities Committee. He stressed "disabilities aren’t liabilities". Beyond the industry he was an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy & worked with Shriners on anti-bullying through the #CutTheBull campaign. Having multiple disabilities myself, I advocate for minor changes that go beyond basic ADA compliance, because living with a disability requires so much extra time and work, that even a small adjustment can make a real difference. That’s part of why Off Record Mic exists-to push for those changes and to share practical information & disabled event details so people can plan ahead. It’s devastating to learn that RJ died by suicide. It’s incredibly sad that he couldn’t find the help he needed. One of the best ways you can help someone is to be present & check in. If you notice someone needs help, call / text 988. We’re fortunate to live in the USA & have so many resources available. Even though I never met him, I hope to carry on the kind of work he did-using my voice to push for better representation, more opportunities & less stigma for disabled people. Four mates get bounced from the club and decide to "KICK ON" - Aussie for “the night’s not over, babe”. They scoring drugs from paranoid, cocaine-dusted son of a Russian crime boss. Yeah, already sounding like a deadly combo! I take a popcorn and soda with my combo. One of them gets sticky fingers for a sister’s medical bills, and the afterparty instantly turns into a locked-in, ultra-violent siege bloodbath. Classic “we just needed one more line, no, let make it one more bag” energy. Nick Kozakis directs it like he has a personal grudge against drywall and intact faces. Markella Kavenagh keeps it grounded while Nikolai Nikolaeff is fully unhinged and sweating through the walls. Maybe it's time for rehab? This film already caused problems at TIFF Midnight Madness, Fantastic Fest, Beyond Fest, and Sitges. Now it’s Hollywood’s turn to get wrecked.
