The Tag and Release trip for sand bass
on the Point Loma turned out epic !!!🎣
While I was fishing strictly for sand bass using a calico stick with 15# mono and a 1.5 oz swimbait. I got picked up by a real tanker ! It was completely unexpected and a huge surprise. Everyone was guessing what it was I hooked, the general consensus was a big white sea bass or a nice yellowtail. After being spooled twice and taken for a dance around the boat three times. It was finally at color.
The celebration started by all of us once it was gaffed and hit the deck.
42lb Yellow ! On the scale ⚖️ ! Lots of Hamachi to devour !

Spent all week fishing last week in Point Loma, SD. On Tuesday I was lucky enough to get an invite fish on the 6am to 6pm Point Loma boat with the researchers and staff from PIER. Pfleger Institute Environmental Research. On a strict Baja Sand Bass Tag and Release trip.
We were not fishing for anything else.
There were 9 of us and we caught and released over 200 big Sand Bass.
We also caught and released 100 brown rockfish and 50 sculpin.
There is a very healthy population of grumpies in our local waters. The researchers have conducted 4 trips since June. And have measured tagged recorded and released 997 bass.
Very lucky to experience such a wide open bite.
Although we were not allowed to keep any fish we caught, I didn't go back to the hotel room empty handed !

I work in 110°F heat under a white trash ghetto mobile home in Hemet Ca, on a Saturday, so that I can fish and hunt and enjoy sashimi.

Last week I visited @savon_tackle . Picked up two inshore rods and reels, along with some terminal tackle and a cool satchel.
Today I received my upgraded reel handles in the mail. These handles are legit and may I say, they make these Tranx reels look fire.
@coopercustomreelhandles thank you for the handles.
Time to hit the bays, harbors, marinas, jetties, docks, receivers and bridges. 🎣
🚨😉 A huge 🫵🏻🚨
Thank you to all who replied to my DMs, with answers to my questions. You know who you are.
I wholeheartedly appreciate it. 🐟🍻 by @offshoreangler
