Gross Bigerhorn · 3,626m
Difficulty: T3+ (SAC)
One of Switzerland’s highest peaks accessible by a marked hiking trail!

Another summit. Another reminder of why I keep coming back to the mountains. Rough terrain, endless rocks, steep sections and views that make every step worth it. No cable cars, no shortcuts; just putting one foot in front of the other until you reach the top.

●The route:
Starting point: Gasenried (1,659 m)
Overnight stop: Bordierhütte SAC (2,886 m)
Gasenried - hut: +1,240 m (approx. 3h 45min)
Hut - summit: +740 m (approx. 2h 30min)

●The trail from Gasenried climbs through larch forests and rocky alpine terrain, passing the glacier forefield before reaching Bordierhütte. From the hut, the route continues over loose scree and rocky steps towards the summit.

●Staying overnight at Bordierhütte
The best option is to split the hike over two days and spend the night at the hut. It offers 44 sleeping places, meals and incredible alpine surroundings. Advance online reservation is mandatory. Season usually runs from late June to mid-September, so check the official website before planning your trip.

4,107 m – Mönch is done!

Another 4,000m peak checked off the list! Starting from Jungfraujoch, this was a fantastic, action-packed route: ~650m of elevation gain, around 6 km total, and intense alpine work.

Conditions: Glacier crossing, mixed rock scrambling, a narrow snow ridge to the summit, one short and one long abseil on the way down.

Weather: Rough conditions; heavy clouds, strong wind, and only a gentle touch of sun in the lower parts.
The satisfaction after pushing through tough weather and varied terrain is unbeatable! Knowing your limits, relying on proper technique, and staying sharp makes every step worth it.

Important!
High mountain routes like Mönch require technical skills, proper gear, and solid experience—never go without full preparation or a professional mountain guide!

4,164 m – Breithorn is done!

I officially reached my first 4,000m peak! Even with the -15°C temperature and the wind, I felt great and the views were just insane.

Today's stats:
Conditions: Fresh snow, did the whole route on snowshoes.
Weather: -15°C, blue skies and full sun on the way up, but some serious wind. It was blowing hard at the summit!

The numbers don't lie – being fit, knowing your body, and having the right gear is the only way to actually enjoy these views!

Important!
Don't go into the high mountains without proper training or a mountain guide!

Herbstmesse for me is the very symbol of a sweet, fragrant autumn. We come back here every year with the exact same joy, even though with each passing season I feel just how much our world is changing.

The floating swans have given way to the free-fall tower, and the charming, gentle carousels to crazy rides for the brave. Only the bumper cars remain unchanged, alongside the view from the swings and the Big Wheel on Münsterplatz, and all those autumn treats... which cost us more and more every year, as the boys' appetites grow right along with their height!

Time flies so fast, the boys are growing up right before our eyes, but this autumn atmosphere and our shared traditions still smell just the same as they used to.

Herbstmesse Basel 2026, just a few days left!

Why is everyone already talking about winter, Christmas markets, and gifts when we still have a beautiful autumn all around us? Christmas is at its most magical when we truly wait for it and when autumn gets to play its part. If we talk non-stop about the holidays two months in advance, where is that magic - just like in the old days?

The mountain summer season this year wasn't as intense as the last one, but it was absolutely epic. Sunrises and sunsets, cozy mountain huts, glaciers, funny moments and people wishing you well - so much won in just a few sunny months. Priceless!

A two-day trek to the legendary Monte Rosa Hütte (2883 m a.s.l.) is an absolute must-do for every lover of raw, high-alpine landscapes. The views of the massive Gorner Glacier and majestic four-thousand-meter peaks leave a breathtaking, unforgettable impression.

2-day trekking plan:
Day 1: Approx. 9 km (elevation gain +395m / -320m).
Route: Start from the Rotenboden cable car station (Zermatt). The trail descends steeply down to the Gorner Glacier. Crossing the glacier tongue requires high alertness, good navigation, and a sure foot. The final ascent to the hut leads across rock slabs and secured sections.

Overnight stay: Monte Rosa Hütte; incredible sunset views and the mighty face of the Matterhorn! With a bit of luck, you might even be visited by ibexes.

Day 2: Return trip. approx. 7 km (elevation gain +463m / -525m), leading through stunning moraines and rocky trails with jaw-dropping views.

Important note: This is a true high-alpine route. Experience in alpine terrain and proper preparation are required. Depending on the conditions on the glacier, crampons and full glacier equipment may be necessary. Before heading out, be sure to check the current trail markers and glacier crossing conditions on the hut's website or at the information points in Zermatt.

Monte Rosa Hut (2,883m) is a whole different dimension of alpine adventure! The modern, aluminum-clad architecture looks like a crystal embedded in the rock and ice, but the approach itself is what leaves the biggest impression. Every step of this trek is an adventure, every moment on the glacier sticks with you, and staying at the hut takes you to another realm. You can't just describe this; you have to experience it.

My favorite moments from the hike to the Gross Bigerhorn. Because it’s never just about the summit, but the journey itself; realizing how beautiful the world around us is, how it changes with every single step. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets, nights in the mountains, and how important it is to share these moments with the right people. Experiences, awe, conversations; memories that no one can ever take away from me.
