In my gothic fantasy era.

Honestly I don’t know why I fought reading The Knight and the Moth all month. In less than 4 hours I’ve managed to get halfway through, and all of my annotations have essentially been Bartholomew quotes. I love him with all of my soul.

Something about these black pages is really just working for me…. Dark mode, paperback edition.

UM... did anyone else think September flew by faster than a dragon chasing some Venin? One minute I was starting the month, the next it was October. It went fast, but it also had plenty of "man, this is a pretty good life" moments. 🍂

Durango and I started our daily walks again now that her paws won't sizzle when she refuses to wear shoes. Mornings are back to long walks and audiobooks. 🎧

I also busted out the record player! I inherited a small collection from my grandparents and great aunt, and I've been spinning a few at a time. For the record (pun intended), their tastes included a ton of Elvis, the Eagles, and Cheech and Chong. Yup, you read that right. 😂

Books were purchased, including the final book of The Kindred's Curse Saga. I really want to do a full reread, but it's going to have to wait until the Maas-iverse loosens its grip on me a little.

And yes, there's a photo in here as proof that I'm alive and slightly caffeinated, despite my day job's best efforts. Anyone need a highly qualified Operations/Accounting/Project Manager/Trainer/Literally anything you need who will work for books? 📚

What was the highlight of your September? 👇 by @onceuponanereader

Started #threshingday , got lost in all of the amazing artwork, and decided to stop at Liam for the night. I am not strong enough for him to re-enter the chat today, and that’s okay.

I need a break from Fantasy and @libby.app said, "I got you." My local library had Never Say Die available, and Data from The Goonies (author Ke Huy Quan) was narrating. Easiest decision I've made all week, as I too am a goonie.

Ke Huy Quan's memoir covers his escape from Vietnam, his start as a child actor, and the years Hollywood forgot about him. I just finished the chapters of him making it off a boat and to Los Angeles, reunited with his family, and hearing him tell it himself is the kind of hard to listen to that you don't want to pause.

Having this as my morning read while walking through the park has been amazing, especially when some of the other regulars ask about what I am listening to. Nothing to see here fellas! 🫣

Update on #75booked: it isn't going. It stalled along with any motivation I had.

A week and a half ago I got a book hangover (and in my head). I started 4 books, DNF'd one, dragged myself halfway through another, and now two are just sitting there. Every book I should be reading gets the 5 year old niece treatment. "No."

Am I giving up? F*ck no. I just realized that I went in with too much impulse and not enough planning. (Thanks ADHD!)

What didn't work: no checklist, no routine, my phone within arm's reach, and a used "rescue" book I absolutely did not need.

What did work: slowing down, physical books, being the most hydrated I've been in years, and finally reading the TBR books I kept talking myself out of.

I'm restarting with actual prep, planners, and Fable AND StoryGraph on the team. Last reading goal of the year. It's on.

Start date for the new and improved #75daybooked is going to be October 1st. If you need to restart or want to join in on this keep an eye out for more info in the next week. by @onceuponanereader

🍂🔮 FALL READ ALERT 🔮🍂

If you need your next cozy witchy romance, Meet Cute Magic by @authormorganelizabeth is it! Better news, it releases today!

Meet Rosie, a bookstore owner with the power to find everyone's soulmate... except her own 👀 Enter Jack: grumpy game store owner across the street, 6ft of nerd energy and slutty glasses (you know the type).

Rosie tries to break a generations-old family curse and accidentally summons the guy who cursed her family in the first place... who just happens to be Jack's grandfather! 💀

Cue: a scavenger hunt for magical ingredients, chaotic mishaps, and banter that had me KICKING my feet 🦵

Think Bewitched x Sabrina the Teenage Witch with the most perfect romance trope combo. 10/10 fall vibes.

I hadn’t really taking the time to actually look at all of the records I obtained for my grandparents. There were a lot of weird ones and a lot of classics, but in that pile, I also found this. An original 1975 copy of The Amazing Spider-Man “Conquistador”. It’s a little grainy and the other side is almost completely unplayable, but I still felt like a cool audiobook nerd listening to this one side.

Had to stop and share! 🎧📖 by @onceuponanereader

Day 6 of my 75 Day Booked Challenge! The beginning was a bit of a rough start to be honest. We had some house guests that threw off everyone’s groove, but I finished The Everlasting this morning and really wanted something lighthearted and funny. Took a look around my case and spotted this Vampire Romcom I bought as a blind date with a book last year. Cricket gave her head butt of approval, which I’m pretty sure means this book has been blessed by the cat gods. And now we enjoy the calm of an empty house. 🐈‍⬛ by @onceuponanereader

Picture this... you're a soldier placed in a sword and forced into immortality. Over 500 years go by, filled with some light torture by your keepers, questionable life choices, and a few decades stuck inside your sword. Which is a lot like the genie in his lamp. Next thing you know you are being pulled out of the sword to a man being beaten by highway robbers. Now you could just move along, but nope! The magic of the sword makes you defend the poor man and then stay with him as he recovers. You are now tied to this weird defender of books! Fast forward, you have picked up a few different individuals in your traveling group and are on your way to a temple to figure out if you can in fact be removed from the magic of the sword. Along the way you may have flirted a little too close to the sun with said scholar and may or may not have developed feelings. And then more chaos ensues, and you may or may not run into the man you deemed your immortal nemesis.

That is Daggerbound! Book two in the Swordheart series by T. Kingfisher. The first book in the series, Swordheart, has been deemed one of my favorites of the year. Daggerbound was nothing short of excellent as well. A cozy fantasy with a healthy dash of spice, this book and its predecessor are relatable and full of witty banter and lovable characters.

I was so graciously provided an ARC copy of the audiobook but plan on buying this book as a trophy for my bookcase. (When I am allowed to....)

Also... when you start re-watching your quarterly Covert Affairs binge and then the Dervish pops onto your TV in the form of Eyal Lavin. His flirting and casual nicknames... you cannot tell me this wasn't the inspo for the Dervish!
