To my Iconic Hall of Famer and Blueprint Father, @zoliy Miyake-Mugler — thank you for being my possibility model, investor, critic, and constant support. You planted the seed, watered me, and watched me grow. I love and appreciate you endlessly.

To my International Legendary Father of the Year, my brafather @malikbrehon Brehon Miyake-Mugler — to KNOW you is to know love. I didn’t truly fall in love with my Runway until we started training, and BOY did we train! You helped me find my model, never let me settle, and continue finding new textures and levels to pull out of me.

30 Observations for 30 Years.

Saturday I celebrated 30 years of life. 🎉

I’ve learned that life isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about having the courage to keep growing. Here are 30 lessons that shaped me:

1. Protect your peace.
2. Boundaries are love in action.
3. Love should feel safe.
4. Healing is a daily choice.
5. Community is built with intention.
6. Your purpose will outgrow your comfort zone.
7. Consistency beats talent.
8. Character outlives reputation.
9. Your voice matters—use it wisely.
10. Joy is a form of resistance.
11. Rest is productive.
12. Style is a language before it’s fashion.
13. Never shrink to fit someone else’s expectations.
14. Chosen family can save your life.
15. Leadership is service.
16. Accountability is love.
17. Every “no” makes room for the right “yes.”
18. Starting over isn’t failure.
19. Forgiveness doesn’t always require reconciliation.
20. The hardest seasons often produce the strongest people.
21. You can’t pour from an empty cup.
22. Being different is an advantage.
23. Your gifts will create opportunities your résumé never could.

Today, on Juneteenth, I find myself reflecting not only on the significance of freedom and liberation, but also on a moment that forever changed the course of my life.

Six years ago, during the 2020 uprising, I founded No More Names LA. What began as a response to pain, injustice, and collective grief became a catalyst for my own transformation. That experience opened my eyes to the power of community advocacy, grassroots organizing, and ordinary people coming together to demand a better future.

The work wasn’t always easy. Over these last six years, I’ve grown tremendously. I’ve found myself, lost myself, and found myself again. I’ve celebrated victories, endured setbacks, and learned lessons that continue to shape the leader, artist, and advocate I am today.

Through it all, I have never let go of two core beliefs:

That the arts remain one of the greatest tools we have to elevate social consciousness, inspire change, and tell our stories.

And that people united can never be divided.

As we celebrate Juneteenth, may we honor those who fought for freedom before us by continuing the work of building a more just, equitable, and compassionate nation for those who come after us.

Happy Juneteenth.
