— Collecting plays a central role in Oriol Vilanova’s artistic practice, extending beyond the materiality of objects to reveal the desires, emotional attachments, and narratives that shape the formation of a collection. In ‘Dear’ (2017–ongoing), collectors invited by the artist write letters addressed to their own collections. Comprising more than thirty handwritten letters displayed across the gallery walls, the work reveals the intimate bonds each person forms with the objects they have chosen to collect. — As part of Oriol Vilanova’s ongoing performance series ‘Palabras prestadas’ [Borrowed Words], Luisa Strina presents a new reading tomorrow (Oct. 10), at 11am, with Rafael Moraes as the guest participant. In the work, Vilanova invites collectors to publicly read a poem in which they declare their unconditional love for their own collections. Created by the artist, the text is a palimpsest of chaotic phrases that express an intense and deliberately exaggerated relationship: “Sincere and familiar words that emphasize the blind and, at times, painful intensity of the feelings that bind the collector to their collection. Object by object.” Conceived in 2016, ‘Palabras prestadas’ has been presented in various contexts, including the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco, Phenomenon (Greece), FRAC Grand Large (France), Art Genève (Switzerland), and ARTBO (Colombia). At Luisa Strina, the performances are part of the program of ‘Não há só uma maneira’, Oriol Vilanova’s first exhibition in Brazil, which is on view through Nov. 14. — Palabras prestadas, interpretado por [performed by] Pedro Barbosa, Luisa Strina, 2026 ph: Opoente Filmes by @oriolvilanova

KOTARO NUKAGA Roppongi is pleased to present ‘Original Copy,’ the first solo exhibition in Japan by Oriol Vilanova @oriolvilanova, from Aug 1 to Sep 12, 2026. Vilanova has made the rounds of flea markets and antique fairs around the world, and, with the postcards he has collected over many years as his primary material, he creates works that enter into a quiet dialogue with their sites. In 2023 he took part in ‘Economy and Love,’ a two-person exhibition with Stefan Brüggemann held at our gallery. At the 61st Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition, currently on view, he is presenting “Los restos”, a large-scale installation in which a vast accumulation of postcards envelops the entire space of the Spanish Pavilion. These achievements have earned him firm international recognition. In this exhibition, new works composed of postcards will unfold in response to the gallery space. What do these modest printed objects, issued in countless copies and passed from hand to hand, reflect back to us today? On the occasion of this exhibition, we are honored to welcome Daisuke Miyatsu @daisukemiyatsu as guest curator. 【Detail】 Oriol Vilanova Original Copy Aug 1 – Sep 12, 2026 11:30 – 18:00 Closed on Sun, Mon and Public Holidays Summer Holidays: Aug 9 – 17 Venue: KOTARO NUKAGA Roppongi Curated by Daisuke Miyatsu (Art Collector, Professor at Yokohama University of Art and Design) Reception: August 1, 16:00 – 18:00 Oriol Vilanova and Daisuke Miyatsu will be present. by @oriolvilanova
