Let’s take a little pressure off nature-based therapy, shall we? 🌿

I LOVE getting kids outside, but here’s the thing… nature-based therapy doesn’t always have to happen outdoors!

Sometimes it’s as simple as bringing in a few sticks, pinecones, leaves, or flowers and seeing where the kids take it.

Those little nature treasures can spark imagination, storytelling, problem-solving, connection, and SO many opportunities for communication.

No elaborate setup. No perfect outdoor space. And definitely no pressure to take every session outside.

Start small. Follow their lead. See what happens. 🍂

Fellow SLPs, have you tried bringing nature into your therapy space? I’d love to hear your ideas! 👇

🌿 Meet Suzanne!

Hi! I’m Suzanne, and I’m so excited to be joining Kate behind the scenes at Outdoorsy SLP!

Three years ago, I stepped away from my corporate career to spend more time with my two kids. Now that they’re getting older and more independent, I’ve found myself craving collaboration, connection, and the opportunity to use my skills to help lighten someone else’s load.

With a background in retail operations, merchandising, and planning, I love bringing order to the chaos and helping turn ideas into action!

Outside of work, you’ll usually find me at the gym, building muscle and negotiating with my 40-something hormones. 💪😂, cheering on my kids from the sidelines, or spending time with family and friends.

I’m so excited to support Kate and all the amazing things she’s building at Outdoorsy SLP! 💚 by @outdoorsyslp

“It’s too risky!” 🌿

But what if a little risk is exactly what our kids need?

Risky play gives children opportunities to build confidence, trust their instincts, solve problems, regulate their emotions, and develop important motor and cognitive skills.

And the best part? They’re having FUN while doing it!

Risky play isn’t about removing boundaries or ignoring safety. It’s about giving children the freedom to explore, take age-appropriate risks, and discover what they’re capable of.

💚 What’s one way you encourage risky play? Share in the comments!

These Maine SLPs SHOWED UP this weekend at @MaineSLHA! 🌿💚

My heart is bursting after seeing so much creativity, connection, and enthusiasm for bringing nature into speech and language therapy.

And the best part? Knowing that so many clients will get to experience a little more nature in their sessions next week! 🌱

Were you there?! 🙋‍♀️ See if you can spot yourself in the Reel!

Know an SLP who could use a little nature-inspired inspiration? Share this with them and give them a peek at what we were up to this weekend! 💚

Listen. I’m giving you a lot of this lately. Why? It’s SO important.

We care for others so we must care for ourselves. I take A LOT of time off in August.

You know what I realized? Fuck, I did it again! Everyone else was being cared for. When parents in my practice are sacrificing themselves I’m the first to call it out.

Anyway, cheers to this whatever it is and however long it lasts. Right now, it hurts like a bitch and feels so great at the same time.

How are you sustaining life for yourself today?!

One of my favorite games in the forest is “find a face”. 🪾🥰 What do you see?

We can target so many speech and language goals but most importantly we slow down, connect, tune our attention, and share joy!

🧙🏻‍♀️My therapy super power in the woods is turning nothing into something magical!

After hosting the most beautiful group of women here last weekend, I needed to practice what I preach. I’m thankful for Mr. Outdoorsy for taking the kids home and leaving me here. A little nature and a little zen.

Recap of the Outdoorsy Retreat 2026

🍄‍🟫 Connection
🍄‍🟫 Nature
🍄‍🟫 Play
🍄‍🟫 Self Care
🍄‍🟫 Nourished minds and bodies

This is a place to be yourself. To be taken care of. To let your inhibitions go. Howl at the moon. Connect. Cry. Release. Play.

This retreat was built by the beautiful souls that showed up in authenticity. My heart is bursting with joy for all we shared and what’s to come for you all. When we tend to ourselves outside of our businesses, in nature and community, we grow in ways we never knew we could.
