The term "bread and butter" is an idiom for everyday or basic fare, and diners gobble up that basket with a hunk of partially-sliced sourdough bread served with pats of foil-wrapped butter served by many classic San Francisco restaurants without giving it much thought. . At some places, though, the bread and butter is anything but basic; it’s so incredibly good, it demands your attention. . We've had some bread and butter recently that practically made us swoon. Here are the ones that—like the best bread—made the cut. surreal to be back in the @outerlands kitchen after almost a decade gone. cozy and familiar, like coming home after a long trip, but everything’s a little off, you can tell someone was there in your room while you were away. the last few years have been an exercise in holding my breath, being seen and not heard, and I’m happy to be back here, breathing again. happy to be back in the little pastry nook, happy to come home after so long away. . 2 new summer desserts droppin on tonight’s dinner menu: . CORN PANNA COTTA // super mega creamy roasted corn base, roasty toasty and thick with honey // roasted stone fruits // fresh brentwood corn // plum-sherry vinegar gastrique // honeycomb — panna cotta is usually a dud, a sigh, an eye-roller, a lazy offering by untrained line cooks when there’s no pastry chef on payroll, but @marydenham taught me that panna cotta can be a SHOW-STOPPER and that’s a lesson I will never forget. 🌽🍑🍯 . CUCUMBER MELON COOLER // watermelon sorbet // cucumber granita // minty, limey, mixed melon-cucumber relish — think jewel and liz phair and mother alanis, think watching 2 lindsay lohans playing poker for a sock full of quarters and blue glitter nail polish, think walking around the mall with your older sister shopping for butterfly hair clips and cucumber-melon scented glitter body mist. slather on some bath n body works, strap on your jelly sandals, and finish off your meal with this lil bowl of 90s nostalgia. 🍉🦋💖 . #outerlands #dessert #pastrychef #sfeats by @outerlands

Her first menu lands this Saturday, December 13th, a brunch built on everything we love: seasonal ingredients, rustic technique, and dishes that make you want to linger a little longer. 1 - CHEF!!! 2 - congee: togarashi chard, chicken bone broth, jammy egg, ginger, chive, bacon, chili 3 - fried pistachio mortadella sandwich: fried egg, provolone, whole grain mustard, brioche bun, pickles 4 - castelvetrano olive focaccia 5 - spiced pumpkin bread with whipped crème fraîche 📍4001 Judah Street See you for brunch!!! by @outerlands
