❤️ World AIDS Day: Remember, Learn and Stand Together This World AIDS Day, OUT North East is joining forces with Blue Sky Trust for a special programme at the ONE Centre in Gateshead, bringing our communities together to remember those we have lost, challenge HIV stigma, and increase understanding of HIV today. 📅 Taking place on Tuesday 1 December, the day will combine learning, reflection and lived experience. From 1pm–4pm, there will be a FREE HIV and AIDS Awareness training session for the public and for professionals, giving participants an opportunity to build their knowledge, explore the history and realities of HIV and AIDS, and understand why tackling stigma remains so important. In the evening, from 7pm–9pm, the ONE Centre will host a special World AIDS Day exhibition and community event, creating space to reflect on the impact of HIV and AIDS and hear from people with lived experience, including a short candlelit vigil. The event will also connect with our wider work to preserve and share the history of HIV and AIDS with an exhibition of rare HIV and AIDS posters from the 1980s and 1990s. 🧶Handmade red ribbons, created by the ONE Centre’s Knit, Stitch and B!tch group, will also be available, with donations supporting the ONE Centre and Blue Sky Trust. World AIDS Day is an opportunity not only to remember, but to look forward: to celebrate how far HIV treatment and prevention have come, confront the stigma that still exists, and reaffirm our commitment to a future where everyone living with HIV is treated with dignity, respect and compassion. 📍We hope you will join us at the ONE Centre, 2B Stonehills, Pelaw, Gateshead, NE10 0HW. 🔗 Please click the link in our bio to book for free access to both the training course and for a place at the exhibition! #OUTNorthEast #ONECentre #WorldAIDSDay #Gateshead #Newcastle by @outnortheast

🌈 We are thrilled to announce that Colin Scott will be a featured speaker at the upcoming #SaferToBeMe conference! A retired head teacher, lead Ofsted inspector, and former Royal Navy service member, Colin brings a powerful, lifelong perspective on resilience, authenticity, and fighting for equality from within institutions. Growing up in South Tyneside, Colin joined the Royal Navy at 16 during a time when it was illegal to be gay in the armed forces, later serving for 22 years as a Special Constable alongside a distinguished teaching career. Having navigated both the military ban and the oppressive years of Section 28, Colin made history in June 2022 during Pride Month by becoming the first UK state secondary head teacher to publicly come out to his entire school community. 🫶 Don't miss the chance to hear Colin’s incredible story and insights on overcoming institutional barriers and living authentically. 📅 Join us at SaferToBeMe 2026 on November 6th at the ONE Centre, Gateshead! 🎟️ We have sold out in-person tickets but there are still online tickets available, priced at only £30.
