The second Monday of every October is honored as Indigenous Peoples’ Day, a celebration of the persistence of Indigenous communities despite colonialism and genocidal violence. This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, the siblings of Alpha Rho encourage you to research the land you reside on and who it belongs to. We also encourage our community to consider how Indigenous history has influenced our own societal privileges, and how we can better support the rights of Native peoples today. 🦋 by @ougammas

Hispanic Heritage Month is an opportunity to honor the beauty of Hispanic cultures and to recognize the contributions of Hispanic and Latin Americans in the United States, who have played a vital role in shaping the American culture, society, and economy we experience today.

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15th to October 15th. September 15th marks the independence of several Latin American nations, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Additionally, México declared independence on September 16th, Chile on the 18th, and Belize on the 21st.

Though the term “Hispanic” generally refers to Spanish-speaking nations, it’s also important to recognize that Indigenous and non-Spanish-speaking communities are an important part of Latin American history and community.

As Hispanic Heritage Month draws to a close, we’re excited to highlight the unique cultures of our Alpha Rho siblings! Stay tuned for our upcoming sibling spotlights. 🩵 by @ougammas
