This Chumash Earth Day, we at the Oxnard Birders Club are honored to join the celebration! Come visit our booth and learn how the flow of water connects all species, in the sky, in the river, and across our shared ecosystems.

Together, let’s honor the forces that guide life and bring life to this beautiful Earth.

We’re hosting a screening of Listers: A Glimpse Into Extreme Birdwatching — a documentary diving into the wild, obsessive, and wonderful world of competitive birding on Sunday, March 8 at 6PM at The Mystery Shop 420 S A St, Oxnard.

Pizza and light refreshments will be offered depending on number of registrants. We’ll have some seating available, but you’re welcome to bring your own chair if you want to get extra comfy.

It’s a FREE event, but donations are always appreciated to help keep community gatherings like this going strong.

Excited to share some of the workshops coming up at Native Plant Fest! Stop by this Saturday and join the fun!🌿 by @oxnardbirdersclub

Got plans this Sunday? No—then join us for a botany & bird hike at South Ormond Beach in Oxnard!!

Explore coastal sage scrub, salt marsh, and costal beach dunes with two amazing Ventura County biologists David Torfeh and Angel Ramirez of @oxnardbirdersclub

Spot rare blooms like giant coreopsis, alkali heath, sand-verbena, and evening-primrose—plus western snowy plovers, California least terns, and maybe a peregrine falcon or a common loon. Angel will focus on bird ID throughout the hike and David will focus on the flora.

Sunday, June 22 | 9am–1pm
Meet at the end of Arnold Rd, Oxnard

Bring water, snacks, and sturdy boots. Mosquitoes can be bad here so bug spray and or a head net is also a good idea.

RSVP required: text/call (805) 794-5334

BONUS POINTS IF YOU CAN NAME ALL THE SPECIES IN THE PHOTOS!

We’re participating in Global Big Day in the chillest way possible. Meet us at Malibu Lagoon State Beach at 8 AM, this Saturday, May 10th. (Sorry for the late notice, we’re on lagoon time 😎) We’ll do a stroll at a birder’s pace through the estuary and spend the remaining time eating snacks and chillin on the sand—all with the goal to see as many species as possible. Hope to see you there! by @oxnardbirdersclub

🪶🪶🪶SPRING MIGRATION🪶🪶🪶

Join us for Spring Migration at the Bear Divide Banding Station on May 3rd!

Check em out ~> @beardividebanding

Watch bird banding in action and learn about our what migratory species pass through this area. RSVP required—link in bio!

???What is bird banding you ask???

Bird banding is the process of safely capturing wild birds, placing a small, uniquely numbered band around their leg, and then releasing them. This band acts like a bird’s “ID card,” allowing scientists to track individual birds if they’re seen or caught again in the future.

Banding provides crucial data that simple observation can’t, such as migration routes, lifespan, survival rates, and population changes over time. By knowing where birds travel, how long they live, and what habitats they use, researchers can identify which life stages or locations are most critical for conservation.

This information helps direct conservation efforts, informs hunting regulations, and tracks how birds respond to threats like habitat loss and climate change.
In short, bird banding is essential for understanding and protecting bird populations, ensuring we have the data needed to conserve them for the future.

See you there 🤝🏽🤘🏽
