Is it just me or the final brushstrokes are the longest part of the process? Every mural reaches that moment when everything finally clicks into place. 🌸

Can’t even find words to describe my feelings seeing this ad for the newly renovated @delcoronado with my artwork in it. Hotel Del is such an icon, a dream, a legend—and knowing that my work is now a small part of its history feels absolutely surreal.

As an artist, moments like this are what keep me inspired. Seeing my paintings woven into the story of such an iconic place is beyond anything I could have imagined when I first picked up a brush. Grateful, honored, and still pinching myself!

If you happen to visit, keep an eye out for my work and let me know if you spot it!

When I was little I was really moved by a Thumbelina story.

Born to live in love and flowers, she was kidnapped by a toad for marriage purposes, rescued, abducted again by a beetle (to marry her, naturally), abandoned, then adopted by a mouse to be forced to marry a rich old mole, rescued again and eventually solved her problems by yet another marriage.

But what aroused pity and compassion then, now causes nothing but annoyance.

I see so many parallels in this sequence of miseries and Ukrainian history. Also I cannot help but think how far Thumbelina could go if she took her fate in her own hands. If she would stand up to her offenders and looked for allies instead of rescuers.

“You will lift me high above, everything we're dreaming of will soon be ours, anything that we desire, anything at all, everyday you'll take me higher.”

You take yourself, girl, take yourself as high as you wish.

When you're alone in the studio, it’s easy to convince yourself that you're just executing an idea for fun or practice. But the truth is much more vulnerable: every line, color, and layer is a bid for connection.

In the studio, every choice is private and guided by memory, grief, instincts, reflections or unspoken emotion. Inside those four walls, the work is safe because it only belongs to us.

An emotion, a question, an image we can't quite explain or an emotion we don’t know how to process.
Art is our therapy and for a while that's enough. The process itself is the reward.

But no matter how personal the process might be, most of us secretly hope someone else will see it.
Not just look at it, but actually see it.
The scariest part of being an artist isn't making the work. It's the moment you take it out of the dark and put it in front of a stranger, praying it lands.

And that's where something magical happens.
Someone stands in front of your painting and sees their own story in it.
They might feel something you never intended.
They project their own heartbreak, joy, or longing onto your canvas.
In an instant, your private solitude becomes their public refuge.

I think that's one of the most beautiful things about making art.
It becomes a conversation between the artist and the person experiencing the art.
And I think that's why we keep creating - not just to express something, but to connect.

We put our personal interior worlds onto a surface, knowing that the moment it leaves our hands, it no longer belongs to us. It becomes a mirror for whoever stands in front of it.

We create in solitude not to isolate... but to find out if anyone else out there feels the way we do.

This Thursday (11/05) I'll be bringing some of my work to @2051cucinaitaliana for an evening of art, conversations, and meeting the people behind the paintings.
A little prosecco, some appetizers, and hopefully a few unexpected connections.
I'd love to see you there. ❤️

Maybe you don’t need to quit your 9–5 tomorrow.

Maybe you just need to stop telling yourself that the dream you had as a kid is unrealistic. 🫶

Start small - give yourself permission to see what's possible.

Because “maybe someday” has a sneaky way of turning into years.

And honestly… I’m really glad I didn’t completely ignore the little girl who always wanted to be an artist. 🎨

If you’re quietly dreaming about doing something different, this is your sign to take one tiny step.

Painting a life cycle of a frog wasn't on my 2026 bingo card 🤣
Yet here we are!

What happens when a painting becomes part of a community’s landscape?

San Diego-based artist and muralist Anna Pearson @p.anna_arts moves between intimate studio paintings and large-scale public murals, using texture, color, florals, architecture, and storytelling to explore memory, belonging, transformation, and resilience.

Born and raised in Ukraine, Anna brings together European romanticism and contemporary West Coast light in a practice that spans fine art, murals, and community-centered public art.

In this San Diego Artist Network artist interview, Anna talks about:
🎨 Creating moments of calm in an overstimulated world
🖌️ Building paintings through layers, texture, and experimentation
🌿 The connection between florals, architecture, portraits, and human presence
🏙️ Why public art becomes part of the fabric of a community
✨ Her interest in murals, commissions, exhibitions, and creative collaborations

My 9 to 5 looks different than yours!😎

Painting pet portraits, meeting the models, and getting paid to hang out with dogs? I’d say I’m doing alright. 🎨🐶❤️

Another Bark Jacobs Season in the books! Until next time, pups!

When a fellow artist challenges you to paint Marc Jacobs’ dog…

You obviously give him the royal treatment. 👑

Long live Neville. 🐾

Now the question is… should I try to get this to Marc Jacobs? 👀
