WRITERS! Do you know that almost all TV shows are sold off pitches, not scripts? WHAAA?! That’s right. So we have to write a pitch in order to sell a show. Let’s do it together. Today we’re focusing on the first part of your pitch: the Introduction. In this section you want to answer two questions: “Why me?” and “Why now?” “Why Me?” — why should the network buy this show from you and not any of the other TV writers out there. One of the best hacks to achieve this is start your pitch with a personal anecdote that ties back into the show. “Why Now?” — why should the network buy this show now? What makes it timely? You can do this through the same personal anecdote, or another hack is to use a newspaper article or perhaps a story like yours went viral recently. Make sure your buyer knows that. BOOM, there’s your “why now.” This is a lot of information — hit me with any questions you’ve got below! If you want to share your “why me” or your “why now,” I’ll do my best to take a look at as many as I can get to. And if you find these pitch tips helpful please share share share to spread the word ❤️ #lauramoran #tvwriting #screenwriting #pitch #crashcourse
What if we met at the Miami Open? ❤️ I’m inviting one of you and a friend to spend two days in Miami, watch tennis from the 72 Club, visit the players’ lounge and meet me for a photo. And don’t worry about flights or a hotel, those are covered too! Every entry supports the @martakostyukfoundation and helps us make tennis more accessible to children in Ukraine. Enter through @charitybuzz at martasweeps.com (link in bio), and let me know who you’d bring in the comments!
