Will you believe what your mind tells you is there? Or will you see what you know to be true? Gestalt theory will explain it I’m sure. Here is the law of closure! It explains that we see a box when there isn’t one and we see complete circles even though there is never an occurrence of one. There are no layers apart from the background and foreground. There is no overlapping. The fact that we see shape or even 3D form that isn’t there but only suggested is one of my favorite design principles. 📦✔️“The Gestalt psychologists, especially Max Wertheimer, developed a number of “laws” that predict how perceptual grouping occurs under a variety of circumstances (Wertheimer, 1923/1938). Technically, in sciences, laws are predictions that are true. In reality, these laws are better classified as principles, which are true most of the time. However, the term law has stuck with these principles because they were established so long ago.

The Law of Closure is the gestalt law that states that if there is a break in the object, we perceive the object as continuing in a smooth pattern. We like to see as simple of a figure as possible.” - isle.hanover.edu
