a belated Indigenous Peoples Day post, stay tuned for part two which will be posted later today or tomorrow.

this post covers a ton of material in a very limited format. it should go without saying but there is obviously a lot of nuance that could not be included within this post. i ask readers not to make assumptions about any material absent, this post has been broken into two parts and even then there is a lot of ground i wanted to cover but couldn’t.

importantly, this criticism is focused on AMERICAN marxism, not marxism as a whole, though much of it applies to other settler colonial states like “canada.”

indigenous people are not a monolith, but we are united in our struggles against settler colonialism. so when i refer to indigenous people generally, i am not doing so to flatten our diversity but to describe the groups of people with prior sovereignty on this land before colonization.

on the topic of Black and Indigenous people, bourgeois history has erased the connection between our peoples, and i would have loved to cover this subject in more depth. while there are many contradictions within our history, such as the assimilation of certain Southeastern tribes into the plantation slave system, the history between Black and Indigenous peoples on this continent are not two entirely separate histories but ones that frequently blur together. the construct of race was, in part, used to differentiate Black people from Indigenous people, to erase the number of “legally” identified Indigenous people, to prolong and expand slavery, etc. Virginia’s slave code records “negro, mulatto, and indian” as a single class of people, many abolitionists were mixed Afro-Indigenous, and Northeastern tribes absorbed Black refugees into their tribal systems. our alliances in battling slavery and colonialism were one of the single biggest threats to the bourgeoise state and that history should be uncovered rather than painted over. it is never my intention to downplay or equate the struggles of either as i myself am the descendant of a “mulatto” Indian slave. ♥️

anyway, happy indigenous peoples day.

Sunny day 🤩🇨🇭🖤 Thanks for everything @dynastyconcept_
