Jiaoxi day trip from Taipei: self-guided tea-brewing experience at @nikkohill.tea in Yilan. If you are looking for things to do in Yilan for your Taiwan itinerary, I would add this one. (Sponsored) More than 10 yrs ago, I first visited Taiwan as a tourist and did a traditional Taiwanese tea ceremony at a popular tourist spot. Even with the crowds and noise around me, I remember falling in love with this time-honored tradition, and it stayed with me long after that trip. Now that I live in Taiwan, I got to experience it again, but this time in a way that feels much more slowed down & personal. At Nikko Hill Tea House (日光山茶屋), you learn the art of brewing tea via an instructional video, choose from their outstanding collection of teas, and then take your time going through each step yourself. Creating an unforgettable, self-guided tea-brewing experience. The experience feels especially memorable because you can take your time appreciating the tea, beautiful teaware and ritual behind it, all at your own pace. The tea house brings together Taiwanese tea culture and Japanese tea ceremony style, and the owner hand selected all of the teaware. Their own tea brand specializes in pu-erh, with raw and ripe pu-erh as well as black and white tea. We tried the honey black tea and mandarin pu-erh, and I really loved both. On a clear day, you can see Turtle Island (Guishan Island) from the 4th floor. If you are planning a Yilan day trip from Taipei, this is easy to add to a day around the Jiaoxi hot springs. 🚌 Capital Bus (Taipei City Hall, cntr.15) or Kamalan Bus (Technology Bldg.), ~40 min depending on traffic 🚆 TRA from Taipei Main Stn., ~1.5 hr ♨️ Jiaoxi hot springs + 8-min taxi from Jiaoxi Stn. 🚗 ~20 min from Yilan City; parking Good to know: 🍵 Tea service NT$300/pp; leaves from NT$100, shareable Private rooms: NT$1,500 min. spend Sweet/savory snacks + mains Outdoor space for families+ elevator 🎟 Free Lu Mei-li Fine Carving Art Museum entry w/ purchase (reg.
