I’ve spent the last two years almost now stuck. I can sit around and blame a disease that fucking wrecked me, stress from a constantly evolving job or changes to my personal life that have made me happier to just stay home on the couch but I’ve been stuck creatively, that’s obvious on my tl here on this app (my only real outlet).
photography was something that allowed me to explore my city with a new found curiosity, to see the sights I’d seen a thousand times in a way which made them new again. It allowed me to try and tell a story, to weave a narrative through captures giving me an opportunity to be vulnerable, which is something I’d always struggled with. I was always able to be brutally honest with myself and to anyone that followed my journey of self discovery and this new hobby.
And that’s all it’s ever going to be, a hobby. and I’m happy with that. But I’m sad at how I’ve neglected it. My camera sits on blocks while the new transmission sits in a cardboard box opened once and forgotten about. Collecting dust rested on the amp not even plugged in. Drying up next to brushes that never got cleaned in a plastic bag marked with the name of a supermarket that no longer exists.
I want to get back into it. I’m moving soon, Toronto will no longer be my muse. I’ll no longer be able to just grab my camera and go for a walk, everything will have to have a deliberateness behind it, scooting to a train station and taking a journey into a city I thought I’d never leave, resigned to being our version of the “I hate living in LA guy”. Stuck.
I got a month left and a lot to do, but I’m reaching out. I want to change up what I do for the last month, I want to start incorporating people more into my photography. Not straight up headshots, but like…Street portraiture? Not sure what it’s called. I’ve long made the concrete and steel the subject of my photography, I forgot about the people that live here. So hmu if you wanna get your picture taken. You can be forever importalized in my Lightroom unedited folder. Stuck, like me.
