Queen Elizabeth II was Britain’s longest reigning monarch, serving as Queen for more than 70 years. Born on April 21, 1926, in London, she became Queen in 1952 at just 25 years old following the death of her father, King George VI. Her coronation took place in Westminster Abbey in 1953 and became a historic television event watched by millions around the world. Throughout her reign, Elizabeth witnessed enormous changes in British society, politics and technology. She served during the premierships of 15 British prime ministers, from Winston Churchill to Liz Truss, and became a symbol of continuity through decades of global transformation. She was also a mother of four, grandmother of eight and great grandmother of twelve. Queen Elizabeth II passed away peacefully at Balmoral Castle in Scotland on September 8, 2022, at the age of 96. Her death marked the end of an extraordinary chapter in British history and the beginning of the reign of her eldest son, King Charles III. Her seven decades on the throne made her one of the most recognisable figures in modern history, leaving behind a legacy that continues to shape the British monarchy. 👑🕊️
