How does Left 4 Dead always know the exact moment to throw a horde at you?

It's called the AI Director, and it isn't machine learning at all. Mike Booth, the guy who wrote the Counter-Strike bot, built it out of hand-written rules. Every survivor has a hidden intensity score that goes up when you get hurt and slowly drains when nothing's attacking you, and the Director watches whoever's most stressed. When that score peaks it pulls the zombies back and lets you breathe, and once everyone has calmed down it starts building the next wave, usually from behind you and never somewhere you can see them spawn.

According to Booth's GDC talk, the point was never to make the game harder, just to control the pacing.

Follow for more tech explained in 2 minutes.

Just being a tourist in my own city🍎🗽

2017 I tried posting family content on YouTube and it never worked out.. cut to 2019 I started truck driving and that’s when everything changed. JUST POST YOUR CONTENT. BE CONSISTENT & BELIEVE IN YOURSELF. (& that’s for everything in life. Whatever goals you have)

As many of you probably know, I’m soon to be moving to Tokyo… and while I’m very excited, it was definitely bitter sweet offloading the cars in the US. So I figured I might as well make my first Japanese car the one that has eluded me for a decade.

Wanted a 458 Speciale since they first came out, but for some reason or other every time I was close to pulling the trigger I never ended up following through. Pretty awesome the first ever drive could be on the circuit at Magarigawa. They also let me drive the demo 849 which was very nice.

Also have a proper race car coming for regular track use 😄
