CMPD Says It Found No Evidence Officers Targeted Black Drivers, but Won’t Release Racist Group Chat Messages

Blogged by: Grace L.

An internal investigation into racist text messages exchanged by Charlotte police officers has found no evidence that the conversations influenced traffic stops, arrests, or other enforcement actions. However, the findings have not stopped the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) from pursuing disciplinary action against six officers involved in the scandal.

Police Chief Estella Patterson confirmed Thursday that investigators reviewed body camera footage, arrest records, traffic stop information, and citizen complaints involving the officers. So far, the department has not identified evidence showing they targeted residents because of their race.

“As of this point, we have not found any evidence of this,” Patterson said regarding possible discriminatory enforcement.

The finding marks a significant development in the CMPD racist texts investigation, which has raised concerns about racial profiling and police accountability in Charlotte. Still, finding no evidence of biased enforcement does not mean the officers’ conduct has been cleared or that every question surrounding their previous police work has been resolved.

As Baller Alert previously reported on October 14, six Charlotte officers became the focus of a growing controversy after investigators uncovered a group conversation allegedly involving racist language and discussions about competing to pull over Black drivers.

The earlier reporting also highlighted concerns about criminal cases connected to the officers and whether their alleged prejudice could undermine their credibility in court.

According to WBTV’s original investigation, anonymous sources described messages containing racial slurs, references to using force against Black residents, and an alleged competition involving traffic stops. Another message obtained by WCNC reportedly described the exchanges by saying “our texts sound like a clan rally.”

The crossing is complete.

Imagined with our friends at Worn & Wound for Windup New York, Redentore Two Harbors sets sail from the Venetian lagoon and reaches Manhattan after a long voyage across the Atlantic: past Gibraltar, beyond the Azores, until the skyline finally rises from the sea.

The dial opens on a four-color print with a deliberately visible grain, inspired by the magazines and printed imagery of twentieth-century America, giving the city the feel of ink on paper. From it, the Statue of Liberty and the skyline emerge in relief, sculpted in brass and hand-finished with an aged silver treatment. Beside them, an off-center brushed mother-of-pearl dial marks the hours, glowing like the horizon at the end of the journey.

Turn it over, and the two harbors meet on the caseback: the New York skyline hangs upside down above Venice, like two shores mirrored in the same water. Between them, the Windup New York emblem and the individual number of each piece complete the story.

It’s crazy how much that has happened these past 16 years!!! Milano was the first place outside of Sweden that I ever moved to. I was still a teenager with a dream of learning Italian and try out fashion modeling. I grew so much living abroad at that young age, and I was having such an amazing time.

What I didn’t know at the time was that this quite literally just was the beginning of a life so very well lived. I moved for a brief period to London after this, then back to Milano. I moved back to Sweden when I got into Law School. After that I’ve lived and studied in Los Angeles. I’ve lived in New York. And I made myself a, for me, impressive career as a Lawyer building my own legal department focusing on Financial Family Law.

Now I live in Monaco since 2 years with the love of my life, and we’re planning our dream wedding as well as other fantastic big things. Life has only gotten better and better. Each season has had its own challenges and there have inevitably been periods when I couldn’t move forward in the speed I’ve gotten myself used to. But looking back, those periods were crucial in their own way.

I wouldn’t have chosen to live these 16 years in any other way and I’m so deeply proud of the fact that I always created my own path. Nobody could ever tell me what to do, and I always dreamed big and stayed a bit delusional in the best way.

(Also keep watching the reel for teenager Ama 🥳)
