A lot of people who are a lot smarter and more eloquent than me have been posting about the history and the ongoing genocide happening in Palestine. I try to share as much factual content as I can, but I would be remiss if I didn’t share my personal connection to the ongoing terror happening overseas.

People who know me know I am a proud Palestinian. My parents were born and raised in the old city of Jerusalem in the West Bank. While they moved here after they got married, my entire extended family remains there, resulting in many summers spent at my parent’s childhood homes.

When my parents moved to the states to try to (and successfully) provide their family with the greatest life they could, they were forced to give up their Palestinian passports in one of Israel’s many attempts to eradicate the Palestinian people from land they have occupied for centuries. Even before then, as a child my mother and her family were forced out of her childhood home which was then taken and illegally stolen by an Israeli family. This happened decades ago and still happens to this day.

There are a million stories I could tell about my upbringing there and our history that Western media continuously fails to report on on a daily basis, but when you are reading about the genocide that is currently taking place in Gaza, remember that the people being murdered are, in fact, people. They are my people with lives and families and futures that the Israeli government is trying to wipe off the map.

Gaza was set up as a modern day open air concentration camp with the people inside unable to get basic access to medical care, food, water, and so much more, being forced to suffer and murdered in conditions against their will, with borders and check points heavily guarded and the inability to leave.

So when I share stories or boycott certain companies, it’s with the hope that the people who know me or just follow me stand on the right side of history. We’ve seen this play out before and it’s already gone too far and need a cease fire immediately.
