Bollywood actor Salman Khan has urged students and supporters to end the ongoing protest and return home, just hours after publicly backing their movement against alleged examination paper leaks.

Reacting after Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised strict action against those responsible for harming the future of students, Salman wrote, “Please go back home,” while directly addressing hunger-striking activist Sonam Wangchuk. He added, “Sonam bro, eat something, I’ll send food,” suggesting that the government’s assurance had addressed the protesters’ central concern.

The appeal marks a noticeable shift from Salman’s earlier statement, in which he described paper leaks as a serious issue and praised students for coming together to demand a better education system. He had called the protesters “courageous and brave” and said that the present generation would make India proud.

Salman had also expressed sadness over the peaceful movement turning violent and extended support to students and their families who were injured. At the same time, he maintained that the movement should not be politically hijacked and that its credit should remain with the students.

His latest message has now sparked mixed reactions online. While some users welcomed the actor’s call for peace and said the government should be given time to act, others questioned why the protest should be withdrawn merely on the basis of an assurance.

The protesters have been demanding accountability over alleged paper leaks, stronger examination safeguards and action against officials responsible for irregularities. Sonam Wangchuk has continued his hunger strike as the movement grows beyond its original student-led demands.

Salman’s apparent U-turn has therefore become the latest talking point surrounding the protest, with critics arguing that concrete action—not just promises—will determine whether the agitation actually comes to an end.
